Description:

Sweet Cheyenne.  She is so loving and affectionate.  She gets along great with dogs and loves kids even the babies!  She plays rough like a puppy but responds very well to basic commands. Her manners are great, and she does not jump up on the table or even try to take food from little kids! She loves car rides.

  • Leash Manners Cheyenne’s leash manners are coming along. She loves to go for walks so does get excited, but a couple of quick corrections, and she is just fine.
  • Crate/House Training Cheyenne is completely crate trained. She sleeps in her crate all night and goes right into the crate at night with a simple command of, “Cheyenne, crate.” She is housetrained with a doggie door.
  • Socialization Cheyenne is very good with people of all ages and genders. She is good with kids, but will get really excited during play and will use her mouth like a puppy would. She has gotten a lot better about this, but, for this reason, we would not recommend that she go to a home with small children, unless the parents are experienced dog owners and not bothered by rough play. Cheyenne is good with dogs, pigs and rabbits. She loves to play with our other dogs and will wear herself playing with them.
  • Energy Level and Exercise Cheyenne is high energy and would make a great running partner.
  • Daily Structure and Schedule Cheyenne is crated at night and gets up in the morning and immediately goes outside. She plays with our dogs throughout the day. She eats a 1 1/4 cup of high protein food in the morning and 1 1/3 cup of food in the evening. The food she eats is called Retriever high protein and can be found at Tractor Supply.
  • Confidence Level Cheyenne is submissive to other dogs and loves being around people. I have seen her act timidly when brought into a new situation around new people, but as soon as the first person pets her or plays with her, she quickly loses all timidity! She has a sweetness about her – she just wants to please her people and be rewarded with love! She will obey commands just to be pet – you don’t even need a treat to get her to obey!
  • Obedience Training Cheyenne knows Sit, Stay and Down.
  • Behaviors When we first brought Cheyenne into our home, her worst habit was jumping and mouthing when she gets excited. The jumping has decreased significantly, as she is learning to control her excitement and learning that we will only pet her when she is calm. Her mouthing is much better, too, as she learns that playing with people and playing with other dogs is very different. Cheyenne is still very much a puppy and will chew things if left unsupervised for long periods of time. We give her soup bones and a Kong to chew on, and that is enough, as her chewing is not excessive, and I believe only done out of boredom.
  • Personality Quirks Cheyenne has one of the most expressive faces I have ever seen on a dog! She is such a happy dog with a very sweet nature.
  • Ideal Home Cheyenne’s ideal home would be one where she has someone to spend a lot of time with and someone who is active. Cheyenne LOVES to ride in the car so someone who was able to take her with them when they go places would be great! Cheyenne seems to love everyone that she meets!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
