Description:

Angel is looking for a forever home after her owner could not keep her.  Angel is housebroken and is good with older kids.  She's very intelligent and highly trainable.

Foster Update:

  • Leash Manners: Angel is well-behaved on-leash, but will become agitated and protective during walks when strangers approach, and especially other dogs.
  • Crate/House Training: Angel is crate trained and house trained, though she must take medication (only $15/month) to keep from leaking urine during her naps. 1 pill 1x/day -- loves it w/ a little peanut butter!
  • Socialization: Angel is not initially friendly with other people who come into her home, as she can be a bit protective.  However, once she's given time to warm up, she does just fine.  She is not socialized with cats and must live in a cat-free home.  Angel is fine with approaching and being approached by other dogs while off leash in open areas, but she can be protective on leash.
  • Energy Level and Exercise: Angel gets two ½-mile walks per day. She loves to play fetch, tug-of-war, and be chased!
  • Daily Structure and Schedule: Angel gets 1 cup of food twice per day. After breakfast, meds and a quick morning trip outside, she stares out the window and loves to observe during the day. Her evening walk happens around 9:30pm and we go to bed around 11pm.
  • Confidence Level: Angel has an alpha personality and would benefit from a strong pack leader as owner as well as continued socialization with other dogs.
  • Obedience Training: Angel knows Sit, Stay, Come, Lay, Out, No and Crate.
  • Behaviors:  She's very intelligent, easily trained, calm and naps a lot during the day. At night Angel wants attention and to play, but wears out quickly.
  • Personality Quirks: Angel is a good, quiet dog -- not a howler like most beagles -- with separation anxiety issues. She is affectionate in small doses and likes to mix playing with time by herself.
  • Ideal Home: Angel would do best in a quiet home with no other pets or a submissive dog companion. Her owner must be knowledgeable in Pack Leadership to give Angel the exercise, discipline and structure she needs to feel safe

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Beagle is one of the most popular scent hounds because of his energy, willingness, and merry, sweet disposition. The breed probably originated as a cross between the Harrier and other hounds in England. The Beagle has been used in packs, alone, and in pairs, for hunting hare, pheasant and quail. He has also served as an excellent narcotics detection dog and makes a fine family companion. The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone. Consider buying two if you will be gone a lot. A Beagle has a loud baying cry that was a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors. Beagles have a tendency to follow their own noses. They may take off on their own exploration if let off their leash in an unfenced area. Energetic and possessing great stamina, the Beagle needs plenty of exercise, but a yard of reasonable size will take care of most of its requirements. A brisk daily walk will cover the rest. Always use a lead when walking this breed or you will be running the risk of it disappearing in search of wild game. They have a life expectancy of about 12-15 years.
