Description:
Look at Angel, an Austrailian Shepherd mix, one of my FAVORITE breeds! She was adopted as a puppy by a dear woman in her 70's. THAT was a mistake: Aussies by nature are an energetic breed. Puppies by nature are an energetic lot. Guess what wasn't a good match? But this good woman has really made an effort with Angel. She completed a training course with her. In her words, "When she chooses to listen to the command she will respond to sit, go and come." How many dogs have I owned like that.....
Anyway, here are some other very honest insights from her owner:
"Angles personality is a playful kid that loves to be the center of attention. If I am on the phone where she is. She barks until I get off. She loves to be petted and brushed. She has a connection to her crate. Once she goes out side, she immediately returns to her crate. You can beg her to stay out or close the crate, she will bark until it is open. Angle barks at items that are different. For example, if a box is on the floor in the Lanai and it is not usually there, she barks until it is moved.
Angle has gone through training at the Altamonte Springs pet training, however she continues to pull and drag anyone that walks her. She also jump on you when she playing. This is not a behavior that was supported when she was a pup. Angle trashes anything that place in her way. Angle barks continue. I believe Angle is bored and needs to receive a younger owner that can provide her with the land and attention she requires. She is a beautiful dog and deserves a home that caters to her breed. Angle is by know means a dog with anger management, she just wants to play.
She is good for upper elementary kids because she is so playful. Very friendly. She like to play alot. She will bark if she does not know you because she wants you to come and say hello. After that she might quite down some unless she require more of you attention.
Angle would enjoy a home where she receives miles of attention. She is able to run about freely. I have resently read a little about Austrailan Sheperds and that are dogs who need to have alot of room to run about. They need to herd because they have working mentality. The place needs to be big, big yard important. Loving attention giving family. No apartment, small homes or tight quarters.. SHE NEEDS ROOM."

I think that is a very honest and comprehensive description of Angel. Actually, it probably describes a lot of working breed dogs under the age of two! You know, it is sooooo important to investigate the breed of the dog you are considering. One of the things I love about mix breeds is that it seems you usually get the best traits of each breed. And certainly the breed description can't guarantee the personality of the individual dog, but it can give you a better chance of finding the one that fits your lifestyle. That is one of the reasons I try to attach the breed descriptions right onto our pet's webpages. For more information about other breeds, visit www.dogbreedinfo.com. And maybe you'll decide that Angel is the perfect diamond in the rough for your family!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, despite the misleading name, the Australian Shepherd is not Australian at all, but was developed entirely in the U.S. to work as a herding dog on ranches. It is possible that the name was derived from one of the dog's ancestors. The breed's principal forebears were most likely Spanish dogs that accompanied the Basque shepherds and herds of fine Merino sheep exported to both America and Australia in the early days of the colonies. At some point it probably crossed with Collie stock. It has only recently gained recognition as a distinct breed. Its many talents include, retrieving, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, narcotics detection, search & rescue, agility, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Australian Shepherds are easy going, perpetual puppies that love to play. Courageous, loyal and affectionate, they are excellent children's companions that are great with active children. A devoted friend and guardian, for they are naturally protective. Very lively, agile and attentive - they are eager to please, with a sixth sense about what the owner wants. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent and easy to train. Though aggressive when at work with livestock, the Aussie is gentle with human friends. Australian Shepherds needs lots of exercise and a job to do, as the breed is very intelligent, active and easily bored. They can become nervous and destructive if left alone too much without exercise. They are naturally suspicious of strangers, so they should be well socialized as puppies. Working lines of Australian Shepherds may be too energetic to be suitable pets. Some like to nip people's heals in an attempt to herd them. They are quiet workers, unlike some breeds, which are bred to bark constantly at livestock. This breed is not usually dog aggressive.
