Description:
I was so suprised the first time I saw Dorothy in person ~ she is sooo much smaller than I expected. I don't know, I'd seen pictures of her goofy face and broad chest and expect her to be, well, bigger. But she isn't. Nope, she's rather small, but she doesn't know it. She still has lots of puppy in her (read "very energetic") and likes to be the top dog in the house. Hey, she certainly has a good self image!

Foster update 5/2008: Dorothy is quite a character. She seems to be very happy and very playful with my current dog (Weegie). Sometimes they play too rough and I get them with the water bottle. They both hate that. She has chewed every single toy I bought for Weegie (he never paid any attention to any of them). She loves bones, balls, anything she can play with. She is not the best with strangers (growls at certain ones), and is really bad with strange dogs (she will fight). But she gets along well with mine (weird). She has this very cute bark that she thinks is intimidating but it's really not. When weegie has a toy or bone that she wants, she will run around and bark at him constantly. It's cute. She LOVES attention and will cuddle with you at any chance. She has been OK in the house- had a few accidents that were confusing as they occurred after she had already been walked ( I usually take them for a 15 minute walk so it's sufficient time for them to go). They are both HORRIBLE on the leash- I need help with that, they almost pull my arm off when they are going for their walks. Everyone that meets her comments on her fur coat- it's very pretty. Also some cute things about Dorothy- she hides in the corner when there is a treat she wants to eat without being bothered by Weegie. She also runs over there when she has been bad and went potty in the house. It's her safe place, I guess. She knows how to sit, stay, and "go in the house" (crate). She hasn't mastered lay down or high five yet- but weegie is trying to teach her. Very high energy and athletic. Willing to sit in her crate and sleep all day (Weegie hates this). I usually keep her crated and him out of his crate when I am not home. This prevents them from playing rough when I am not around. She is on the floor right now tearing up a nerf football i bought for them. Looks very happy."

After spending multiple adoption events with Dorothy and screening her application for a couple of months I have a bit more insight into her personality. She is a strong dog...physically and personality wise. I believe she needs a strong pack leader as she is very determined and bossy sometimes. She likes to give love and get lots of attention in exchange. She tends to not share well with other dogs so lets get her a home with no other dogs. She needs a lot of exercise (fenced in backyard a must!) and regular gradual socialization with other pups. She loves to take walks but likes to walk you (some leash training would be required). I do not know about kids but Dorothy is very active and tends to jump when excited so might knock over small children easily…cats well I don’t know…once again excited and might run over cats or play to rough.
