Description:

Plato came to us after her owner kept him tied to the back door his whole life. He is so sweet and loving and all puppy. He has not been socialized with larger dogs so he barks and runs away from them. He loves other little dogs. He does bark and chase cats but once they stop he doesn't try to bite them. He is crate trained but not fully housebroken. He loves people and I suspect would do well with gentle children whom are a bit older (maybe 10 and above). He loves to be cuddled and sleep in your bed. He does have a bit of a humping problem with other dogs. Although since we've neutered him this should reduces significantly. Plato deserves a wonderful home that will keep him indoors and love him like he deserves.

Foster Update:  Plato is a BIG personality in a SMALL package.  He's always happy to see you and play.  He gets along great with my other 2 small dogs (<22lbs) and is always ready for action!  He sleeps when I sleep and eats when I eat and even like to watch the TV show Glee!  He stares at the TV and tilts his head everytime they start singing and dancing, hilarious.  I feed him dry food 3x a day and he only eats until he's full, he doesn't stuff himself like other dogs I know... He's also super smart!  In the short time i have had him at my house, we have taught him that he needs to "ask" first before getting on the couch and his pottytraining is coming along amazingly!  He  definitely learns from other dogs so if you have other dogs already that are trained, then it will be a snap to train him.  He is learning what "outside" means and he runs to the back door when I say that along with my other dogs.  He loves to give licks all the time so don't wear any good smelling lip gloss around him (learned this the hard way).  He also loves to cuddle and feel your warmth against his back.  He's a great dog and so small too!  He has a lot of good energy as he is able to calm down when you need him to and get excited when you want him to.  He also learned very fast what "no" meant and he's very responsive.  As soon as I see him going to another dog's bowl to eat their food, I say "No" firmly and he turns right around!  It's evident that he wants to please.  He's going to be an awesome pet for someone!!

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Chihuahua is the oldest breed on the American continent and the smallest breed in the world. Native to Mexico, nonetheless it seems to have been introduced by the Chinese. It was only brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The Chihuahua is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua where he was brought to the rest of the world by travelers. This breed is believed to have been sacred to the Pre-Columbian Indian nations. The Chihuahua is a popular, economical companion dog. Courageous, extremely lively, proud and enterprising, it gives and demands affection. Bold and saucy, it moves swiftly to avoid being stepped on. Chihuahua's are strong-willed, intensely loyal and become very attached to their owners, even to the point of jealousy. They like to lick their owner's faces. It is undeniably suspicious of people except for its owner. When strangers are present, it follows its owner's every move, keeping as close as possible. This breed may snap at teasing children, after all it is too tiny to get away. The Chihuahua must resort to his sharp teeth in self defense. It is not recommended for children. He can be noisy and may require patience to housebreak. Many owners simply paper train this breed. The Chihuahua hates the cold and may shiver, although this may be due to high metabolism as much as temperature or anxiety. It will tolerate and even appreciate a warm sweater on cooler days. They are good little dogs for apartment life. Although it is tempting to carry these dainty creatures about, they will keep fitter if taken for walks. A body harness is safer than a collar. Don't think that just because he is small he should be confined to a small space. Chihuahuas have a life expectancy of 15 or more years.
