Description:
Rocky is a wonderful little shih tzu who is all love and sweetness. He was rescued from the local pound after being found as a stray! He is blind and requires daily eye drops. Once in a while it seems as if he sees *something*, maybe light or shadows. This does not keep him from getting around! Otherwise he is very healthy and loves everyone. Rocky is in a wonderful foster home and here is everything she's told him about his sweet personality and daily routine:
• Rocky is all love and confidence, he loves to be held and cuddled.
• A bit timid when first meeting people but after he warms up he falls in love with everyone and vice versa!
• Loves to have his bum and head scratched and will fall asleep right in your lap when you're just relaxing
• Not too energetic, has a great energy level for a small dog his age. He can be very silly at times and does short little sprints of happiness! He likes the plush animal toys that do not have stuffing. He will squeak them over and over and over!
• Enjoys car rides and taking short walks and will not pull on the leash
• Great with other dogs (even ones much larger than him!) and just ignores cats if they are around
• Can jump up on the couch and go up stairs but has depth perception issues so he cannot jump down or descend the stairs
. *
Foster note - he has not been able to make it up on the couch without help.
• Eats wet/dry food twice daily
• Gets eye drops in his eyes twice a day (very well behaved while getting his drops). He currently gets 3 different types of eye drops twice daily.
• Well behaved while getting a bath in the sink and when finished, he's the happiest dog on the planet
• Will bark at times but stops right away when told "no"
• Housetrained but needs to go outside frequently during the day. He has not had any accidents in the
house.
- He navigates the house and yard well and just needs some foot tapping or your voice to guide him back on track if he needs it. He is amazing to watch!
Medical update: Rocky has Glaucoma in his right eye and has dry eyes in both eyes. He will need eye drops in both eyes daily for the rest of his life. Rocky is currently being seen at Veterinary Specialist Center Animal Eye Associates for his eyes.
Rocky qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program! If adopted by a senior (55+) his adoption fee is $50.
*** Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs. It was not until 1930 that the first pair was imported to England. The life expectancy of Shih Tzus in 16 years.
