Kilah (to rhyme with "Lilah") came from the local pound after she was confiscated during a cruelty case. She is all love and energy and is healthy. She is good with other dogs and is housetrained. She has some energy but otherwise a good dog looking for a wonderful home!
Update: Kilah was adopted several months ago but was recently returned because they didn't have the time to meet Kilah's high energy needs. Kilah loves to run and play. She is housebroken and good with dogs. She definitely needs someone who will help her get her energy out. She would love to be your running partner or go to the dog park daily! She is still young and has some puppy behaviors that need working on--or at least redirection. She loves to chew and will need to be provided with tons of toys and activities to help curb her chewing a bit! She also loves walks but needs some leash training. Someone with a big yard and maybe another dog in the home that could help keep her busy might be a great idea too!
Foster Update: Kilah is super sweet. She has been with us a week and really enjoys going on walks and playing with my two Labs. By about 8 at night she is exhausted! She pulls a little when she walks but after correcting her at the beginning of each walk she is getting better. We leave her out of her crate all day and night and have never had any problem with her chewing or having an accident. She is very friendly and likes all dogs. She played with my mom's Yorkshire Terrier this weekend and she was fine. So, I think she would get along with any dog, no matter how big or small. She knows Sit, Shake, and Down. She is very gentle when you give her a treat and doesn't have any food aggression issues. She isn't real sure about the pool so I don't know if she swims. She does love to run in the backyard... she is really fast! She is a great dog.
**According to dogbreedinfo.com, the Deutsche Schäferhunde ("German Shepherd Dog) was first registered in 1899. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a great ability to learn. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipe buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy of around 13 years.
