Description:

June 2018 update: Reba came to us from the Southern Comfort Animal Rescue when they had a devastating fire.  7 years later, she was picked up by animal control because she was running the streets. Her owners were not able to pay the release fee from animal control and we took this wonderful girl back into our care. Our great foster/volunteer, Shannan, and her daughter went to pick up Reba in Daytona Beach. This poor girl sat in animal control for a few days before we were even notified. We were so happy to take this senior girl back into our care and find her forever home.

We will update her webpage with more information as we learn it. Below is all of the information from her foster 7 years ago.

 Foster Update 05/19/11

She is very friendly, polite, calm, and gets along very well with other dogs.  Like most Labrador Retrievers, Reba is also very smart.

-No Cats

Reba has really mellowed out in the last week.  She seems to have really settled into a routine, and feels comfortable with her surroundings.  She has figured out all the ins and outs of living in a family!  She understands sit, stay, in, off and wait!  We are working on down, but it might take a while.  She is such a calm dog - she never gets upset about anything.  She still easily takes a bath.  We have been practicing on a leash, and she has improved so much.  We like to use a collar called "The Gentle Leader" which she doesn't love, but she readily lets us put it on, and then happily goes for a walk.

What sets Reba apart from other dogs is her willingness to fit into a family.  She will watch our other dog to see what she is supposed to do, and then she just does it!  I feel like we don't have to teach her anything, she just figures it out on her own.

Reba loves to play in the morning, but then take a nap through much of the afternoon.  She sleeps in her crate during the night, but most of the day she does not need to be crated as she is house trained, and doesn't chew up anything!  If you need to crate her, she will easily be led into the crate with just a couple of treats.

We think Reba will make a wonderful pet for anyone - either a family or a single owner.  She loves to play, but she also likes to snuggle up and lick your face while she is being petted!

Foster update 06/18/2011: Reba is a wonderful companion dog.  Right now it is raining outside, and she loves snuggling up to my feet under the computer.  She usually follows me from room to room, helping with laundry, dishes, cooking, etc.  She is quiet and laid back - she waits to get petted, she waits for her treats, and she waits her turn for everything.  She is such an easy dog - she quickly learns the routines of the house - and she learns the likes/dislikes of all the other dogs in the house.  She becomes a friend and playmate for everyone.

Her coat is shiny and black. She does not shed much.  Her energy level is moderate.  She is totally housebroken.  She'll run and play with everyone, but then relax and settle in for a long nap. Her demeanor is calm and quiet.  She rarely barks, and never growls.  She gets along great with other dogs and people.  All of our guests comment on how good she is when a new person comes into the house!  She knows sit, stay and wait.  She is only 1 year old, but she is so mature and mannerly!  She really is a doll.  I think she would fit in anywhere - a single person who wants a loyal companion or walking partner, or an active family.  If Reba was a house, I would say she is "move in ready."  She is the epitome of an easy going dog!
