Description:
Foster Update 3/5 - Traveler is doing great! His confidence has soared and he just keeps on showing what a great boy he is!! He is learning to play now - even chased after the ball a few times - but his favorite game seems to be running back and forth from room to room in the house! He gets so excited!! That horse kick may have given him a bit of a limp, but it sure didn't slow him down!

Foster Update 2/11 - Traveler is adapting very quickly to living in a home. He didn't have much interest in treats at first - wouldn't even think about taking one from your hand - and now, he comes in from outside and goes right to the treat cabinet! It is so cute!! Traveler also didn't care too much for car rides. We had to almost pick him up to put him in the car the first few times! He has learned now that car rides don't mean you are going to be taken away and not brought back and will jump right in. He is such a good boy, and I am sure anyone that adopts him will be so glad they did!

Foster Update 2/3 - If I was able to have another dog, Traveler would be the one. Even though he is very average in looks, he has a spirit that stands above the rest. Because Traveller has not had much experience living in a home, there are areas - learning to play for instance - that are going to require some catching up. He wants to play...he just isn't exactly sure how! One of the best things about Traveler is his eagerness to please. He listens and appears to really want to do the right thing! (back to that good spirit) He is great with kids (mine are 5 and 14) and has been friendly with my dog as well as other dogs in the neighborhood. And did I mention Traveler has swag? Yep, that horse kick gave him the cutest little limp!! He loves to go on walks and although he hasn't quite mastered leash walking, he does not pull at all. He tends to go from side to side!! We have been working on that and he has improved drastically in just a couple of days! Again, he is eager to please, so he learns fast. Traveler is housetrained.  Traveler has a lot of love to give...he just needs his forever family to give it to!

Traveler came to our local vets after wandering up the the vet's farm. She took him in neutered him and had him at her farm for a bit, but he had one small problem... he chases the cows and horses! After testing his luck one day with the horses he was kicked and his leg broken. He is all healed up now but can't go back out with the horses! So he is now looking for his forever home without a horse!

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
