Description:Foster Update 11/10 - Coco is so sweet, not aggressive in the least, loves to eat, go for walks and cuddle. She is very good on a leash. She also responds when you call her by name and will come. She gets along very well with my two dogs, (Bichon & Shih Tzu).
I have never had her around children or big dogs so don't know how she is with them, but I can't imagine her not doing just fine. She is definitely NOT a yapper as I have yet to hear her really bark. Even when the dogs on the other side of our fence bark at her she does not bark back. She loves to play with squeaky toys and will run after things if you throw them. Anyone who adopts this sweet little girl will be very lucky.
Coco came us from animal control. Were not sure how she got there, but we have since found the vet who had seen her before she came to the shelter. She is on phenobarbital for a seizure condition which is under control on regular medication. The cost of Coco's medication should be less than $20 a month.
Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs. It was not until 1930 that the first pair was imported to England. The life expectancy of Shih Tzus in 16 years.
