Description:Foster Update 8/9/2010:
Ritz is amazing! She is so sweet loves to play with my two dogs and other foster! She is very tolerant of puppies and my obnoxious corgi/bulldog mix =) She is completely potty trained has not had one accident in my house! I don't crate her at all, while I am gone I keep her in my room so she doesn't have full roam of the house. She isn't a chewer or a digger and LOVES attention. She wants nothing more then to lay on my couch and sleep. She would do great in a home with other dogs or alone, with or with out kids any age! She is the perfect dog!!
Foster Update 8/17/2010:
I am definitely going to have a hard time giving up Ritz she is the sweetest dog ever. She loves sleeping in my bed under the covers with me everynight! she isn't a barker and when she looks at you with those sad eyes you can't help but melt. She has gained some weight since I have had her... She definitely needed to! She loves to play with my dogs but her favorite spot is laying on my bed. She is the perfect dog! Not one flaw!
Foster update 8/26/2010:
Ritz has definitely come out of her shell in the last week, she used to be so timid and quiet tolerant of my dogs but not quick to jump in and play. She has gained some weight which I am very happy about =) she LOVES to play now she is much more excited and seems overall a happier dog. She wakes me up in the morning to cuddle and loves to sleep on her back like a person! I have definitely fallen in love with her... it didn't take long since she is such a sweet girl. She is good on the leash and I have taken her for a couple walks and she has been great. There isn't a person or dog she hasn't liked! She is defiinitely submissive and avoids confrontations with dominant dogs at all costs. She knows basic commands of sit and is working on stay she wants nothing more then attention and love!
Foster update 9/15: Ritz is doing great =) she is a complete different dog from when she came to my house. She is so much happier and loves to play. She sleeps on her back like a person! She is somewhat of an escape artist she knows how to climb my chain link fence... but she only does this when she is ready to come in, she will climb over the fence and run straight to the front door and wait to be let in! She loves car rides whenever I let her out the front door she runs straight to my car and waits by the door. She knows basic commands of sit, off, and is really working on stay (she stays about 80% of the time right now) She does have a little seperation anxiety which is easily manageable with a crate! She definitely needs a home that has a lot of time for her because she loves people so much!!
Like many dogs in the South, Ritz is heartworm positive, but don't let that stop you from adopting a great dog. We are treating her with monthly heartworm preventative, our preferred method. Many heartworm positive dogs go on to lead long and healthy lives.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
