Description:
Lola was found running loose by a animal lover. She couldn't keep her so brought her to us to find  her forever home. The rescuer had a bit of information for us concerning Lola as she stayed with them for a couple of days. They had this to say about her...

Lola is good with dogs and cats. She knows some tricks, is good crated and rides well in the car. She walks pretty well on the leash and is very calm when meeting new people. She does get scared on loud noises.

Foster Update 9/28 - Lola is a wonderful canine companion!  She is a really beautiful and special dog.  I can't believe no one has adopted her yet!  She is an angel that loves to be loved and is so eager to please.  As Lola's 'foster mom' I have a few things I would like to share with you about her:
  • She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met
  • Lola LOVES to swim in our pool and run around the back yard with the kids
  • Good with kids and most other dogs
  • Lola is scared of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and some cameras and phones (she is getting better)
  • She needs leash training
  • She will run away when she is off leash (we need to work on that)
  • Sometimes afraid of large groups of people (getting better!)
  • Knows: "sit, stay, lie down "
Lola is such a joy to have in our home.  She came to us a free spirit and very head strong.  I've managed to teach her some discipline without damaging her free spirit and personality.  Her ideal forever home would have a pool, lake or pond to swim, a large fenced yard to run, and an owner who could love her with a consistently firm and affectionate hand.

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
