Description:Riverside AKA River seems to have a perpetual smile on her face! She is a very happy girl and loves everyone!
River was found getting ready to cross a four lane road near Riverside Park in Oviedo on the morning of July 5th. Had she escaped during the fireworks the night before, or was there another reason she was running around with no collar or identification? A Pet Rescue by Judy volunteer pulled over to try to catch her. It did not take much. Upon being called she came right over and soon after got right into the vehicle.
Foster Update 07.08: She seems to be respectful of the already established canine hierarchy in the household. For some reason she was intrigued by my senior dog though. As she has become more comfortable, she became a little more intrigued by the household cats. She just seems to want to play. Also, she likes to get the other dogs to chase her in the backyard. She has puppy energy/nervous energy which could be contributed to her missing her previous family and trying to figure out why she is here. She did not appear to be food aggressive.
I accidentally found out that she seems to know the "high five" command. She also seems to know the sit, down, and stay commands.
Volunteer Update 07.10.10: River would love to be a lap dog. Yep, she will climb right into your lap if you let her.
She is very expressive. She has the big bright eyes and the head that tilts when you talk to her or if she hears a high pitched sound.
River is a bundle of energy! She would probably do great if she was adopted by someone that ran with her or an energetic family that involves her in their activities.
She gets attached to the humans in her life very quickly. Due to that attachment, at this point she has separation anxiety so would need to be crated when left alone.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
