Description:
Foster Update 2/28 - Pittsburg does great walking off the leash. He will run ahead but comes back quickly when you whistle. He LOVES to run in the water along the edge of the pond and will occasionally take off into the deeper water for a quick swim. Pittsburg loves attention and wants to spend time close to his human companions. He will try to climb in your lap when you sit down but he understands “no” and respects humans who don’t want him in their lap. Pittsburg is also good at dinner time and doesn’t beg for food. I believe he would do well in a home with another dog to play with since he still has a lot of puppy energy.

Foster Update 2/18:  We brought Pittsburg home about a week ago. What a wonderful pup! Here are some of the highlights from our first week together:

· Loves to cuddle with his human companion and will try to climb in your lap whenever you sit down
· Loves to be with his human companions, he will follow you anywhere
· Loves to go on walks
· Loves to run; will run alongside a bicycle. (We believe he is part   Greyhound and this is apparent when you see him run.)
· Great with other dogs
· Crate trained
· Housebroken
· Super sweet; definitely a lover not a fighter.
·  He is the kind of dog that will be totally devoted to his family.
·  Needs a home with a yard and space to run.

Pittsburgh is a lab puppy who was found running loose in the neighborhood behind the Sanford shelter. He's a lab puppy, do I need to say any more? He has LOTS of energy and is good with people/kids/dogs -- he loves everything and everybody. Larger dogs are his preference since he is so playful. Pittsburgh knows basic commands and listens well.

Foster Update 11-20-2010
Pittsburg has been with us now for several months. He is a great boy! He has grown into a long and lean playing & loving machine. He loves to run in the yard, play in the kiddie pool and play with my other dogs including my other foster, Rosco. Pittsburgh loves to get baths and he is easy to groom.
He will curl up with me on the couch to watch a movie and sleep in my lap while I read. We love him very much but would love to have him find a 4-ever home to share his love with.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
