Description:06/09/2015 Hershey went into a foster home. The family that is taking care of her are amazing. They saw the sadness in Hershey and the whole family decided to help her, love her and help her through the loss of her human mom.
06/07/2015: Hershey was returned to PRBJ. We always take our dog's back if a situation arises. And yes, Hershey's life was turned upside down. Her human mom passed away. Hershey is now almost 10 years old, but you would never know that by looking at her. Per the family member who surrendered Hershey she is housetrained, does not care for cats, she does know some tricks and in general is a happy dog. She loves her Purina one Smart Blend food. She does love to sleep with family memebers and runs free in the house. Her most favorite toy is a hedgehog stuff animal. She would make a great pet for someone who would love a nice calm dog for companionship. She is ready for adoption or fostering. She is up to date on all shots and chipped. She would benefit greatly if she had a foster home since she is scared being at the shelter.
Please don't let her age discourage you, you will fall absolutely in love with her.
Hershey was originally adopted from us in 2007 so image our surprise when we got a call from animal control that she was with them. Of course, Judy ran right over there and picked her up because once you're a PRBJ dog, you're always a PRBJ dog.
Hershey is a doll. She loves to ride in a car, play with a ball, all the things you expect from a lab. She will shake paws, sit, anything you want to do! This is a great, playful dog who is looking for a great playful family!
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
