 Ricky spent his entire life with one loving owner who recently had to move into a nursing home. She described him as her “spoiled only child” — and Ricky certainly took that title to heart. He was allowed to do whatever he pleased, and now he still carries that “I’m the boss” attitude into new situations.

  What Ricky Needs

 Ricky isn’t a bad boy — he’s just a clever one. Like many small dogs, he will take advantage of people who don’t set clear boundaries. He needs a strong, calm, and consistent owner who can show him love while also making sure he knows that he’s not in charge. With the right person, Ricky will settle into a more balanced and well-behaved lifestyle.

He would do best in:

•  An adult-only home ( no children )
• A home with previous dog experience, especially with strong-willed little dogs
• A household where rules are enforced consistently and gently
• A secure, escape-proof home and yard

  Ricky is a flight risk and has been known to bolt through open doors or gates. His new family will need to be extra cautious and make sure:

• Doors are securely closed before entry or exit
• Gates and fences are locked and secure
• He’s properly leashed for every outing
• He wears an ID tag and is microchipped

 Full of Energy

 Ricky is a high-energy pup, even at nearly 7 years old. He loves to run, play, and burn off steam. He would love a secure yard to romp in and a daily routine that includes lots of exercise, mental stimulation, and interaction. A tired Ricky is a happy Ricky — and far less likely to get himself into mischief!
