Description:
Kay came to us with a horrible case of mange with almost 100% hair loss! She is now completely better and is ready for her forever home. She is a very sweet loving dog whom deserves better then she has had in the past.

Foster update 1/11: I took Kay home last night and she has been nothing but a very sweet loving lab! She LOVES other dogs and is OK with the cats. The first night she chased the cats but after a couple of slaps in the face and some claws in the month (done by the cats of course) she has learned to just leave them be. She loves to run around and wrestle with the other dogs. She isn't much of a licker but enjoys a little kiss now and then. She has no food or toy agression with people or other animals. She really deserves a great home! She comes when called but does pull on the leash. She does not need to be crated in the home as she has no chewing habits that i'm aware of!

Foster update 1/13: Kay has been a joy to foster. She has this Joy about her and a pep in her step. She LOVES the dog park and everydog she has interacted with. She loves to play, play, play with other dogs and she must have the "right" energy as they always feel very comfortable playing with her even after only meeting her for a second. She loves her people as well and will sit and paw at my arm if i stop petting her. She is fully housetrained, doesn't chew and hardly jumps on people. She is doing MUCH better with with cats. If properly exercise and she is tried she does not chase the cats, if its been a long day and i just don't have time to take her to the park or on a long walk she entertains herself by stalking and chasing them..i believe she learned this from my shepard mix! She is a very sweet loving dog who has learn to give "love licks" followed by "love nibbles"! I recently added Shar Pei to her breed mix as i have had several comments at the park as at the shelter as to what she might be mixed with. She has a kind of a short stubby body and a longer stubby face as well which leads me to believe she might be mixed with Shar Pei, but of course this is all speculation!

Foster update 2/19: Well I have had kay for sometime now and i'm just not sure why? She has had serveral people interested in her but I guess when they meet her they are looking for something else. She is a pretty calm dog whom really is very well trained. She does well with kids at the dog park but I think she would do best in a home with kids older kids or younger kids just visiting as she shys away from them when they are being rambucious. She likes women and it takes a few days for her to really bond with men. I am a single person household so my experences with her and men are only at the dog park and with my direct family. She seems to really trust women the most! She loves to cuddle in the bed and stock the cats. It takes her at least a week to get comfortable with the cats and learn that they are not "outside" cats and they are part of the family. She chases the cats and still is a bit rough with them but has learned that the cats rule the house and they have claws. She chases them mainly when she is bored or underexercised. She is complete housetrained as i have mentioned before and can hold it for a long time (as i am sometimes gone 10-12 hours).

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
