Description:
Jennie and her companion Rascal are such cute Shih Tzus .  They are both looking for a loving forever home.

Jennie has a thyroid condition, but it is easily treated with medication.  She need to be on this medication for the rest of her life.

Since Jennie and her companion have been together for most of their life, we would like to see them be adopted together, but if the perfect family came along they can be separated.

Foster Update 01/03/10:  Rascal follows me or the family around leaving Jennie behind to sleep. He is more active then she is and seems to be more interested in what the family is doing. I never see them play together and they are only together when I put them in the crate for the night. Jennie seems to sleep all day. She has bouts of energy in the late evening when she will get up and wonder around with the family. Of course she is up when its dinner time too. I'll also get her up so she can go potty throughout the day.

Foster Update 01/01/10: They are so adorable and well tempered dogs. It's a shame that their previous owners let them both get in this bad of shape. They don't bark. Jennie has this wine about her that sounds like a new born puppy. They just follow me around and lay on the couch or by my feet.

Foster Update 01/27/10:  Jennie can be active and more alert on one day and then sleep just about all day on others. She eats well and has a good appetite. When she is up she follows us around the house. She loves to lick our face and show affection. We discovered this week she may have a little bit of separation anxiety. She has been sleeping in my daughter's room since Rascal has been adopted. When Valerie leaves for school she takes Jennie out to go potty and then leaves her down stairs. One morning at 6:40am she began to bark after she left while sitting by the door that my daughter normally goes out of. I got up and stayed up with her the rest of the morning. We both watched  a nasty storm blow by.

She loves to lay on the ottoman or the top of the couch. Those two spots seem to be her favorite places to nap. She also likes to lay in the sun in the am. She will find a spot on the floor where the sunlight shines through the window. She loves to be in the kitchen when I'm cooking. She will sit right on the rug over by the sink or by the stove. I have to be careful not to step on her as I'm walking back and forth in the kitchen.

She takes her Thyroid medicine with a slice of cheese. She recognizes the sound of cheese being unwrapped and comes running to the kitchen because she knows it's "medicine time".  She is great at bath time. Very easy to bathe. Since we have had to go to the vet a lot for her 4 injections she now gets nervous going. She will shake out of fear but lets the vet do what they need to do to her. She does not nip at all or show any kind of aggression what so ever. I'm always in her face loving on her every min I get.

She dreams out loud sometimes. It is so cute. She sounds like a newborn pup when she does this. Must be dreaming of the days she chased squirrels and lizards.

She always greets us at the door with a wag of her tail when we walk in the door from running errands. She gets so excited when we come home  that it is sometimes hard to get into the door because she is right under our feet greeting us.

She loves car rides. She sits in the seat and and lays nicely. You just have to open the door up for her and she hops in.  She has been such a joy to take care of. It's been amazing to watch the progress of her rehabilitation.

Foster Update 02/10/10:  Here is an update on little Miss Jennie. She is still very mellow. Lays around a lot and takes her naps. When she is up she follows us around. She still does her cute little dance and spin on her rear. I'm thinking she does that because her skin itches her. The vet checked her anal glands already.

She does not wonder from the yard at all. We have her trained not to leave the yard. She does her business and comes running in. She likes to walk out with me to the mail box. If she knows we are leaving to go somewhere she heads to the door wanting to come along for the ride.

She still loves to give kisses and lay in my lap. Sometimes when she is ready to go the bed for the night I will find her over by the stairs looking up as though to say "Where is sissy she needs to come get me I'm ready for bed."

She is such a cutie pie. She will make such a great family pet. She has been such a joy to rehabilitate and love.

Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs. It was not until 1930 that the first pair was imported to England. The life expectancy of Shih Tzus in 16 years.
