Special Needs: ACL/CCL surgery in mid July, still needs to have activity restrictions on running, jumping. Dasaquin daily

Description:

Patsey is from a high-kill shelter. She has beautiful bright eyes and absolutely adores her people.  She is a VERY happy girl who loves squeaky toys and chewing on bones. She eats and sleeps in her crate.  This little sweetheart is a bit shy and cautious upon first meeting people, but once she warms up she is loving, playful and full of personality.    She will need lots of patience at first, but she is well worth the effort!

Foster update: Patsey had ACL/CCL surgery on her rear leg in mid-July. She had to be on full restriction for a while and we still monitor her carefully.

Patsey shows no discomfort or issues; in fact, she would like to be high energy constantly if permitted and is a very bouncy girl who loves to jump and run if allowed. She still uses a restricted size fenced area in the backyard. When inside, we alternate between crating (she is used to this and happily runs into her crate which is placed in front of a window) and having her out.   She is out of her crate more than in it now that her leg is stronger but we do keep close tabs on her.    We would not recommend a dog park or full out running, jumping or playing with other dogs.  We currently give her Dasequin daily.

 

Special talents of Patsey include walking on the windowsills (definitely a no-no), finding ways of jumping onto various items in order to get on the counter, stashing toys in her crate, and ambushing you if you are not paying attention to her by jumping up in your chair with you and kissing you:) 

    

Because of all her vet appointments relating to her surgery, she has become unsure of cars, so we have been taking her on short trips which has helped with restoring her confidence.   

PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF SWEET PATSEY'S NEEDS :

• Because Patsey is initially timid, it is preferred that her forever home is a quiet one without children . 
• Although Patsey is still on some restrictions, a fully fenced, good-sized backyard is required for her to have room to run around when she is cleared for more normal activities.
• She demonstrates some food aggression (from inside the crate) and needs to be fed separately from other dogs.
• She overall is good with dogs but can exhibit a lack of awareness of "space" with other dogs.  She will need to be monitored with the other dogs , as not all dogs may like her approach.
