Please note:  A securely fenced backyard is preferred for Meggie.

Miss Meggie was surrendered to PRBJ when her owner found that caring for two small puppies was too overwhelming. This little puppy is sweet and loveable, but she is also very active and playful which was more than her mature owner could handle.
Puppies are like babies and owners must be sure to keep things picked up so they are not chewed on or ruined.....and ofcourse, pups must be monitored at all times to make sure they are safe.  Little Meggie will get into plenty of trouble if she is not watched. She will need an active owner who will have time to play with her and work on her training.
She was nervous at her foster family's home with adult dogs and cats and the sounds of parrots and kids.  She loves kids as much as they love her; however, she squirms and wiggles and should probably be in a home with older kids that can handle her without her getting hurt. She has been good with the cats and does not even go near the parrots. At first she was too scared to play with the other dogs and took her a couple weeks to be on the floor at the same time as they were.  By her 3rd week, she was napping and playing with the two Frenchies, but not the larger dogs as she is still scared of their larger size.
She is not fond of being on a leash, and if she gets off the leash, she is quick to scamper away. We have found she will not potty while on the leash, so a A SECURELY FENCED YARD would be best for her. With her small size, it would be important that she is not left unattended. She was used to human food and was difficult to get her to eat doggie food. She is not the food or treat motivated type dog unless it's people food. She doesn't like being stuck in the crate if she knows people are home- especially at night.  She will scream until you get her out.

Her owner stated she was a Yorkshire Terrier; however, based upon her soft curly fur we believe she is a Yorkie Poo and this breed will require lots of attention to grooming. Currently, her coat is medium-length, and she is not too happy about sitting still to be brushed or getting her nails trimmed.  Her new owners will need to brush out her coat to remove tangles. The more often she is brushed, the more comfortable she will become with the process.  Yorkie Poos should be taken to a professional groomer every 6-8 weeks.

1/27 Foster recap: MEGGIE is good with medium or small dogs; although she prefers being the only dog to soak up all the attention. She is good with birds, cats, and older children (due to her size). She is not happy on a leash, but loves to play and potty in the backyard. As she is a tiny girl, she should be monitored outside to ensure hawks and other wildlife do not see her as prey.  And, she is a bit of a food snob and doesn't like being stuck in her crate while you're enjoying a comfy chair or cozy bed....she wants to be with her people. She will need regular grooming appointments to keep her YorkiPoo hair looking it's best. MEGGIE would luv a home where she can be pampered and given lots of attention and time outside in the yard!

New puppy parents will need to be dedicated to obedience, socialization, and potty training to ensure pup grows up to be happy and well-adjusted dogs! We highly recommend their new family attend puppy training classes. Training classes are the most successful when everyone in the family attends so you all learn about your new puppy.
