Foster Update 3/9/2023: What a lover! Bernie has such a sweet disposition and can't get enough of belly rubs! We've had him for about four weeks. He's still a bit shy, particularly around larger men. Just give him some catnip, though, and he comes right out of his shell. Someone who works during the day or likes to take care of daytime errands will absolutely love this kitty as a roommate. Mornings are his playtime. He entertains himself, as long as you keep his toys out. It's fun to watch him run around and swat at the various toys, just like a kitten. Of course, he also likes to play with a wand toy if you want to get in on the action. If you have a few minutes in the morning, he'll take time out from play to lay on your lap and purr. Late-morning through the afternoon is his sleepy time. He spends most of the day quietly hanging out in his favorite bed (which will come with him when adopted). Evenings bring out the socialite in him again. He likes to hang out with his humans, either sitting on a lap or just chilling by himself on the couch. Bernie becomes a super snuggle monster at bedtime! He gives each of his humans some love, then sleeps on or against us all night long. He couldn't be sweeter! His tail is one of our favorite things about him. It's really long, and he uses it to give a quick caress to your arm or leg as a show of affection, even when he's just passing by. We've never seen any aggression from this little guy. We don't have any children around, so we don't know if he's child-friendly, but I suspect he would just run and hide if someone were bothering him. Bernie is quite low maintenance, but he does have some food allergies/sensitivities that require a special diet. He currently eats Iams Sensitive Digestion & Skin, which can be found at most grocery stores and Walmart. We put out several scratchers for him, which he uses regularly. We have had no issue with him scratching furniture. We don't currently have a cat tree, but I think he would enjoy one with a condo near the top, so he could hang out in the living area and still feel safe. Even though he's still a little jumpy, he has regained a lot of confidence in the short time he's been here. With a quiet environment and a bit of patience, Bernie will flourish. You couldn't ask for a more lovable kitty!
