Herbie is a super relaxed and goofy older gentleman. Herbie was adopted from a high kill shelter and then his family moved out of state leaving him with a family friend.  Unfortunately, the family friend could not keep Herbie and reached out to Judy to see if she could assist.  Herbie loves to play with toys.

He is dog friendly, however, he does not like sharing his toys, so if there are other pets in his home he would need to play separately or have a toy-free household.

Herbie recently got to spend the weekend out of the shelter with a nice lady and her pets. He got along great with her female dog, and initially did not pay any attention to the cats in the house. He went to investigate one of the cats (who was not happy to meet him) and the cat smacked him on the nose. From that point on Herbie would chase her cats. However, we do not know if this means he can not live with cats, or if he just got off on a bad foot with her specific cats.  She said that he loved to lounge on the couch and would sleep in bed with her right next to her.

These muscular breeds are known for their strength, courage, bravery, persistency, stubbornness, and retentiveness.  The American Bulldogs are blessed with athletic capabilities which is why this breed is recommended for active owners

Herbie does have skin allergies and per our vet should take Apoquel for the rest of his life.
