Description:
Runner needs an experienced, strong owner.  He is a Rottie/Shephers mix who is eager to please, loves people (including children and strangers) and other dogs.  It seems like he is always smiling!  He is energetic and acts just like a teddy bear.  He loves to travel, but is strong headed and will decide whether or not he wants to come out of the van/car. This is a behavior we are working on, but it's mostly due to the fact that he loves to be with his people and is afraid of going back to the shelter. He would LOVE to live with a human who could take him everywhere and travel with him.  Here is some more info. about our Runner:

Foster Update:
•  Needs an experienced dog owner who can be Pack Leader, as he needs daily exercise and discipline
•  Completely housetrained, has never had a single accident or any "marking" activity
•  Great with people and other dogs
•  Not socialized with cats and must be in a cat-free home
•  Is not actually a "runner" and will stay in the yard or house or wherever you are -- will not run off
•  Very strong, but will walk well on the leash if walked properly with a prong collar
•  Displays resource aggression with food, bones and treats
•  Very intelligent but has lacked consistency and leadership, so he will challenge if he does not want to do something but gives in easily when forced to obey
•  Responds very well to corrections and training, you never need to correct him twice for the same thing
•  Knows Sit, Down and Give Kisses

Runner qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program!  If adopted by a senior (55+) his adoption fee is $50.

*** Are you not familiar with Rottweilers? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Rottie is calm, trainable, courageous, and devoted to their owner and family. The Rottweiler is probably descended from the Italian Mastiff. During the Middle Ages, it was used as a herd dog. It was bred in the German town of Rottweil in Wurttemberg. Practically extinct in the 1800's, the breed population began a comeback in the early twentieth century due to the efforts of enthusiastic breeders centered in Stuttgart. Some of the Rottweilers talents include: tracking, herding, watchdogging, guarding, police work, carting, competitive obedience, and schutzhund. They have a reliable temperament. Protective, he will defend his family fiercely. They require owners who can handle their massive size. The Rottie is a natural guard dog with a mellow temperament. They are highly intelligent and have proven their worth beyond question in police, military, and customs work over many centuries. This breed needs a lot of companionship and socialization to be truly happy. They can be aggressive with other dogs and should be kept on leashes in public places. Friends and relatives of the family are normally enthusiastically welcomed. Strangers can get no further than the sidewalk. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
