Description:
Take a moment to watch Jess' video. An 11-year-old 50 pound terrier mix, she is a Katrina rescue. We were never able to find her owners and so has been waiting a long time for a new home. You can see photos of our Katrina Rescue efforts in the Photo Gallery under the Information Dropdown.
Jess is an amazingly easy dog to live with. She just asks to be let outside a couple of times a day to "take care of business." Aside from that, she is content to be inside, taking life easy. Not a barker, she loves attention and asks for nothing more than to spend time with you. She isn't as grey as these picture imply - she has a lot of fair hair on her face that photographs white. She is in good health but like alot of seniors (canine and human) she has a limited number of teeth and so prefers her food soft. She doesn't get along well with cats, but has plenty of love for you! If you are wondering how demanding she is, check out this video of my husband trying to get her to walk around for the camera. Don't worry, she's wearing a harness so she isn't getting jerked, but this is just too funny!
Update: I'm soooo happy! Jess is in a great foster home again! She has been hard to place because she is older and doesn't have a striking appearance. Thank goodness this wonderful woman saw Jess' heart and made room for her (and Cheyenne). Here are some insights after just one day:
"I have walked Jess a couple of times since yesterday (20 min each). She is a slow walker, but loves to be out there. She is very sweet and follows me everywhere! Right now she is snoring next my feet in my office. Also, I bought Bil-Jac brand of dog food which is supposed to be fantastic for them as it does not get bloated in their stomach like other foods and crushes easily between your fingers. She loved the dry food and ate it quickly. Because of her attachment to me already she was showing signs of aggression towards Cheyenne today (whenever I was petting Cheyenne), which I corrected easily."
Surely someone somewhere is going to give this dog who has been through so much the home she has waited for so long!

Jess has survived some tough times. Won't you consider giving her the best years of her life??? As a senior pet, her adoption fee is only $100 and she qualifies for our Seniors For Senior Program.
Why would you consider adopting a senior pet?
1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stage(s) of teaching a puppy house manners and mopping/cleaning up after accidents.
2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up.
3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older" dogs.
5. Older dogs settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.
6. Older dogs are good at giving love, once they get into their new, loving home. They are grateful for the second chance they've been given.
7. What You See Is What You Get: Unlike puppies, older dogs have grown into their shape and personality. Puppies can grow up to be quite different from what they seemed at first.
8. Older dogs are instant companions -- ready for hiking, car trips, and other things you like to do.
9. Older dogs leave you time for yourself, because they don't make the kinds of demands on your time and attention that puppies and young dogs do.
10. Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep because they're accustomed to human schedules and don't generally need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks.
