Special Needs: Jetta needs a quiet home with somebody who will be patient with her as she learns to trust them & new surroundings. She still has anxiety probably due to the trauma of her earlier life and loss of her puppies.
Description: Jetta is a lovely, surprisingly small, bulldog who is quick to learn, once she comes out of her shell! She comes up to about my knee and I am 5'3". She has a beautiful shiny short black coat and when she puts her ears up, she looks like a large Boston Terrier! Jetta is learning how to "act like a dog" from the other dogs in her foster home. She has learned to chase lizards from one of the dogs & that squirrels are interesting from another one. If she sees one of them rolling around, she will roll around. She would definitely benefit from being in a home with another dog. She loves to chew on nylabones & natural bones. She does not beg (a rare quality in a dog!) and seldom barks. When she does bark, she quiets quickly when asked. Once she learns to trust a person, she will act silly with them & nudge them to be petted. She is slow to trust but it is worth the needed patience. She will do best in a less hectic home, one without children or cats. All she needs is someone to work with her, love on her, and help her overcome the haunting of the past. This beautiful girl would love to be a part of your family! Found as a stray, she has had a rough time. She was extremely pregnant when Judy got her, and soon had a litter of 8 puppies. Her foster mom at the time made a lovely photo album of Jetta and her babies, proof that Jetta was the best mom ever! They were beautiful, chubby little things, but sadly, only two survived. They quickly found forever homes, but Jetta still waits....
I asked Jetta's foster mom to describe for us her foster experience and this is what she shared. I think you will enjoy it:
"We are a foster family for Pet Rescue by Judy. We have adopted 2 of the dogs we fostered and are currently fostering as well. In addition, we have a 15 y/o Lab/Staff mix who wandered into our lives. This is a success story about 2 dogs we adopted, but there is another piece to the story that we would like to see added to the successes — Jetta, our foster dog.
We started fostering in Sept. 2005. The first time we went to get a dog to foster, one of the dogs was barking frantically and I had said to my son that we weren't going to foster "that one". Well, a couple of weeks later when we went to Petsmart to bring home one of the dogs that had not been adopted, guess who we brought home to foster and one week later decided to adopt???? "That one"! That one is Plinko, who had been with Judy for quite awhile after being found wandering in a storm.
Plinko is a big boy, almost 70 pounds. He is very good natured but needed a lot of work on manners, especially since he is so strong. We took him to obedience class & it did help, but he needs consistent work. We have received many compliments about the improvements in his behavior when people come to our house. Plinko's buddy is the next foster dog we adopted, Cali, a Jack Russell Terrier. We never planned to have a small dog, let alone a Jack Russell, but Cali was returned a couple of times and I would literally cry when I would go on Sunday to Petsmart and he would be sitting in the crate shaking with a bandanna on. I think he chose us. He and Plinko are almost inseparable even though Cali is less than 1/3 the size of Plinko. Cali has become a happy, secure dog and his separation anxiety is mostly a thing of the past.
Jetta is the last piece of the story & we would love to see her find the forever home that she so deserves. When Judy first brought her to our house, she wouldn't eat or leave the bathroom. She would slink around the house practically on her belly. Now she is a happy, tail wagging dog who loves to run around outside and chase lizards and squirrels with the other dogs. When people come over, she reverts to trying to act invisible. All she needs is somebody who will be patient and give her the time she needs to trust them and come out of her shell. She is well behaved and eager to learn. Are you the person who can make her a success story?"
