6/4 foster update:  My fiancé and I had Toby for a little over a week and he is the best dog! He is so sweet, goofy, clumsy, and irresistibly adorable! He loves to be outside and chase all the lizards and squirrels he can find. He has such a happy personality and such a sweet soul.

Over this past week we have learned that Toby can eat his food in about 2 seconds, so we got him a slow feeder and it helps to slow him down. He does need some training with walking, so we got him a gentle leader and an easy walk harness, size large. He does ok with the harness, but we did see better walking behavior with the gentle leader. He mostly just wants to pull with all his excited energy, but it is something that can be fixed!

He absolutely loves any toy that has a squeaker in it. We will also be sending him back with his new favorite toys in hopes they can go with him to his new home. He is starting to warm up to throwing the ball out in the yard and will bring it back to you a few times but then get distracted by lizards all over again.

We have a pool, and he was just starting to explore the water, so I think that's something he will definitely enjoy! He is super social with both people and dogs but is not a fan of cats at all. It is recommended that he has a home that is cat free. Anytime we see another dog or a person he is always so excited to go and meet them and play! I have a dog that is slightly more mature than him, and he absolutely loved having a buddy! They slept together, ran around the yard together, play together and enjoyed walking together as well! I think if a new home had a buddy for him, maybe another dog or kids to play with, that would be perfect!

Even though we only had Toby for a week, it is so easy to fall in love with him! The first day or two he did seem a little distracted getting used to the new surroundings; however, he responds extremely well to his name, and his name fits who he is. He is extremely responsive when someone whistles or calls his name and has excelled at the command to sit.

He is super gentle when it comes to giving him any treats and when playing. He is still trying to figure out his size and is still on the clumsy side, which you cannot help but love. If you need to give him any medicine, if it's put into a treat, he eats it right up! We have also discovered that he loves bananas and marshmallows too!

After the first couple nights, we did notice he takes his little monkey to bed with him every night or when he goes to take a nap, which is adorable! I also found that he loves to be covered up with a blankie! We just grabbed one from the closet and he fell right asleep! He does have a lot of energy so when it came time for bed, if we would tell him, “It's time to go night-night,” he seemed to understand and go curl up in his bed with his monkey. When he is not sleeping in his bed, he is wanting to cuddle with anyone who is available :)

Other than needing a little training with walking and not being a fan of cats, he is perfect! My fiancé and I both really hope that he goes to a good home who will love him unconditionally!

Dog for a Day 4/29/21:

We had a great time walking Toby around Lake Monroe Saturday afternoon.  He was the easiest dog I've ever walked on a leash and was so well-behaved that multiple people pointed out how compliant he was.  He seemed to love people as well as other dogs and greeted everyone happily throughout the day.  Toby had plenty of energy for all the walking we did (2.5 hours total) but was perfectly glad to lie down on the grass next to us when we needed to rest.  I couldn't recommend Toby more.  He's going to make a great pet for some lucky family out there!

Toby is a fun and high-energy dog. We think he would do great in a family environment with older kids to play with him, or with a single person or couple who is outdoorsy and make sure that he gets the exercise that he needs. He gets lonely by himself, so we want him to go to a home with a like-minded other dog. His new home must have a fenced-in backyard for him to safely play and run in. He is good with other dogs his size, but is not a fan of cats. Please fill out an application to meet him!
