Sasha is a sweet dog that we rescued from a high kill shelter. She was adopted, but then returned to us as her owners did not properly train their younger kids to respect that Sasha needed her own space at times. Sasha would be amazing in a home with older/considerate kids as she was wonderful with their two older girls. Sasha loves to play with toys.

When outside Sasha would need to be monitored in a fenced backyard because she is a hound and if she catches a scent or is trying to she will dig out to go find it.   Sasha can escape just about any fence and requires leash walking or fully monitored in yard when she needs to go to the bathroom.  In our yard she prefers to go to the bathroom quickly and come right back in to relax.  But she LOVES to go for walks and is the perfect companion to help you hit your 10k steps.

Dog for a day 7/29/21:She is an excellent car rider, loves to go for walks, and is very affectionate. As a Hound, you can't be in a hurry walking her because she likes to keep her nose to the ground taking in all the smells.

Sasha is not a fan of other dogs. I found that when we were passing another dog, and seeing she would get all riled up, if  I said, "no," Sasha took if I was telling her to go after the other dog and then it becomes a big loud ordeal....however, I found when approaching another pet and I seeing her start to respond, I said, "good girl" and "easy does it" in a nice calm voice while redirecting her attention. This has been working so far, and hopefully she can get to the point of not even responding to other dogs when we are out socially.

Sasha is a perfect example of one of our heartworm successes! When Sasha arrived at our shelter she was heartworm positive. Now (10 months later) she is negative! We used the same method on her as we do for all of the other heartworm-positive dogs, the slow kill method. We administer a strong antibiotic (doxycycline) to the affected animal for 30 days. Then all they need after that is their regular monthly heartworm preventative that they would normally be getting even if they were not positive. PRBJ has been practicing this method for 30 years and it has never let us down!
