Description:

Max was found as a skinny stray. The family that found him kept him for about a week or so. We were informed that he is still a big baby:) He would benefit from a trainer, and we were told he is very smart and eager to learn. He already knows, 'sit' and 'stay.'   With his size at 67lbs, he is very strong on a leash. At first, meeting him, he is very friendly and loves to give kisses.

He still needs some guidance with potty training. He is very playful and loves to cuddle. Due to his size and puppy behavior, older children/teens are recommended.
Max has shown interest in playing with friendly dogs, but because of his size, he would need a physically strong companion to keep up with him.

He has also shown us that if a door is open, he will run. A fenced-in yard is needed for him to safely romp and play in:) New owners should be observant until Max is settled into new surroundings to ensure he does not attempt to get out of the yard as he has shown us he can jump a 6 ft fence. Daily walks and time in the yard with his humans are needed.

He very much enjoys walking/running:)

Dog for a day 4/24/21:

We had a blast taking Max around the Sanford area, and while he was a little stubborn at first, he became much easier on the leash as he got more comfortable with us. He was surprisingly well-behaved around food, and did not even think about eating a French fry. We took him to the Seminole State Forest for a walk and run around the lake, for which he was eager to show off his speed. Most dogs without training will try to pull on the leash as you’re running, but Max remained close. He even stopped to pose for a few photos. We encountered a group of people at the trails, and Max stayed close and did not bark or pull in their direction. We then started to take him on another trail, where he let us know shortly after that he was ready to go back to the car. Once he was in the car and relaxed, he did not want to leave. Our dog for a day experience would have lasted much longer, but it appeared that the run in the sun tired him out.

Dog for a day 4/3/21:

Max is a sweet dog with such a gentle soul. He was a little nervous when we first got in the car but was still very sweet and, after looking around to make sure everything was okay, laid down nicely in the back seat. Max’s personality really came out with praise and positive reassurance. Just letting Max know that he was safe and doing a great job on his walk meant a great deal to him and that’s when his puppy personality came out to play. After a relatively short time, Max was trying to give me kisses and even climbed onto my lap like he was a little lap dog at a park bench. This guy’s personality is so sweet and seeing that side of him made my heart melt. Max is such a sweet boy and just needs some reassurance and positive reinforcement to help him feel comfortable in his surroundings. However, in no time he seemed to relax and really enjoyed our outing. He handled walkers, bike riders, and dogs that would pass very well and did not bark at them. He would tug a little in the direction of people walking their dogs or certain walkers who would past at the beginning but as long as you have a strong center of gravity it isn’t really an issue. Max is also incredibly smart! I never once asked him to heel but after about five or ten minutes of pulling in the manner mentioned above, he stopped and started staying right by my side in the heel position for the majority of the time - he realized the pulling wasn’t getting him anywhere so he stopped. In this way, he is very intelligent and seems very eager to please. He is such a sweet dog and just wants to be told that he’s doing a great job!
