Mama Tig has been in our foster home for a couple of months now, and she is very happy to get attention from anyone in the house. She is the official greeter of the teenagers when they wander out of their rooms. "I love this dog!" my son says, "She's always happy to see me."
Mama Tig has two main expressions; Please, please pet me! and Oh, wow, they're petting me! This is heaven!!
She takes correction well, and has learned to leave the trash alone and stay away from the possum holes under the fence.
My daughter is taking online classes, and Mama Tig is there in the WebEx screen, making sure she gets plenty of attention, but unobtrusive enough that she doesn't get shooed out of the room.
Mama Tig is having more bursts of energy than she did when we first started fostering her. She will sprint across the backyard in sheer joy, then come running back to me, smiling and excited. She's been well trained to sit and wait for attention, and even when she's excited, a quick hand motion will remind her of her manners. She is still calm and mellow most of the time, and doesn't run or get rowdy inside the house.
We think Mama would be best as only dog since we have not been able to find a suitable match
Foster Home Update: We really love Mama Tig. She became attached to us so quickly, and she just seems to be ready to love and be loved. She walks up to you and sits politely at your feet and turns her face up to you. You cannot resist petting her. She’s just a lovely cuddlebug. She is an escape artist! Her new parents are going to have to be very careful at the front door when entering or exiting!
Foster Home Update7/18/20:
Mama Tig is fully housetrained. I take her out regularly, but
if she ever needs to go out, she will let us know by whining
at the door. She loves toys, especially squeaky rubber toys.
She’s extremely gentle with everything she does, and she
will kiss your face if you let her. She also knows what she’s
doing wrong when you tell her no, such as going into a room
she’s not allowed, and she comes when called.
We’ve had Mama Tig in our house for a bit now, and we’ve
been able to see more of her personality. She’s very loving,
mellow, gentle. She melts like a puddle, slipping down to the
floor, when you pet her in an especially good spot, and she
teenage daughter’s hugs. In the house, she’s calm, docile,
and accommodating, right there if you want to snuggle and
watch tv, but just as content alone in her dog bed.
Occasionally, she gets in a playful mood and carries around
one of her squeaky toys, tossing it and squeaking it with her
mouth. She’ll chase it a couple of times if you squeak it and
throw it, but she’s not completely sold on the idea of giving
her toy back and would just as soon keep it and squeak it
She’s a good leash walker, and loves heading out the front
door, but she’s not the dog for someone who wants to take
long walks. She’s ready to head home after a block or two.
She pulls a little bit when we pass another dog or a squirrel,
and she chases squirrels up the trees in the backyard.
Mama Tig is loving and gentle, calm and easy, with just
enough personality to make you laugh or marvel at her, but
not so much that you’ve got messes to clean! Her main
personality is mellow, but she does get excited—about toys,
walks, and charmingly, she gets excited at every reunion
with someone, even if it’s just that she’s been in the other
room for a couple of hours. Seeing her smiling face and
wagging tail greet you when you get back after hours or a 30
second walk to the mailbox is delightful. She will add so
much love to her forever family. Come and meet her, maybe
it will be you
Mama Tig is currently heartworm positive, but please do not let that shy you away from this wonderful dog!
Pet Rescue By Judy practices the slow kill method for treating heartworm, and we have had great success with it. The slow kill method means we give the infected dog a medication for 30 days (if you adopt within his first 30 days we will provide you with the medication) and then after that all she needs is her monthly heartworm preventative medication.
