Jack is just waiting to find a home and knows his new family is out there! We think he would really blossom as an only dog or perhaps one other. He has the cutest waddle/strut from the back and looks like he is just rushing around to get to something important! He loves being outside and rushes around, making a huffing sound. While I am getting their food ready, Jack likes to jump up and down and knock the kitchen towel off the stove handle. It is like a game, haha. With his short stocky build, it is quite funny to see him doing this.
Dec. 2019 Foster update: Jack's personality is coming out now that he is healthy and feeling well. He is learning that it is not so bad to sit on a lap and be petted. He loves to sleep on his back and be covered up like a baby. He is very quick at arranging blankets over himself and it is funny to watch. He knows which crate to go into when it is mealtime and gets very excited! Jack loves being outside and he does like toys but cannot have them when around other dogs as he can be possessive. He is cautious with new people and can be quite a barker; although he does do a bit of grumbling, it's just his way of talking. Jack would benefit from a home where he gets lots of one on one attention.
Jack loves being outside and has a ton of energy! We call him "the energizer bunny." He was found when he was seen wandering in a neighborhood for days and some wonderful people took him, had him checked for a microchip, and made sure he got to a vet, as his eye was severely injured. Having his eye removed due to an injury did not slow Jack down - more than likely, he now feels much better and is even more energetic! He is not a lap dog, as he is very wiggly and wants to get down and get on to the next thing. Like many Chihuahuas, Jack is a happy-go-lucky, energetic, "I wanna go and see something," kinda dog. He can take a while to warm up with other dogs. Also, he is a bit hand shy. Since he cannot see from one side, I do not recommend him with kids unless they are over age 12. He would probably not do well in an apartment or shared wall housing as some things trigger barking, like a typical Chihuahua! He does mark in the house once in awhile, but we have new foster dogs coming from time to time, which may cause that. It is infrequent but belly bands can be quite helpful if he persists.
He is not a huge fan of being in a crate. We do feed him in a crate and leave him in there for a short while but at night, he is gated in a room with another dog and plenty of dog beds. He is used to that routine and does not chew anything or get into anything. He does really well with a routine.
