July has the most amazing, expressive, golden eyes, and it’s a good thing, because she has a lot to say with them! She has so much personality; we are continuously surprised and amazed at what we find out about her. She’s been living with us for about a week now, and one thing is for sure, she loves people. She’s very submissive, and ducks her head, gives you her belly, and oh, my, how to resist those sweet puppy eyes! You would expect her to also be shy, but she’s not at all! As soon as she gets out of her crate she runs around to check on everyone and get some love. She is super happy to be around people and will always stay in the room we are in or follow me around from room to room. She’s very excited and loves to play, chase, fetch, wrestling, tug. At first we thought she was just puppy-hyper with no manners, but I happened to hold up one of her favorite toys, and she went from vibrating and wiggling with excitement to perfectly still and sat politely in front of me to get it. So we know she is trained, and now we are working to tap into what she already knows. She needs a lot of exercise, so we walk her a lot and also take her with the dog leash attachment on the bike. She walks well and will stay next to me if I only give her a little leash—she will keep it slack between us. In addition to being responsive to correction and training, she’s very strong and can jump high, so she might be a good candidate for agility training, or at the very least, some really cool tricks! She fetches the ball and brings it back for you to take from her mouth, and she really loves rubber chew toys. She is a little mouthy when you play rough with her. She forgets and puts her mouth on your arm—but she never presses down, and she is sensitive to my corrections, so I think she will soon be cured of that habit. She also has the habit of jumping up on people. I know she knows sit, because she sits to get her toy, so we are working on making it a habit to sit when she wants attention. It is hard because she is SO excited and happy to see the humans!
She is crate trained, and we keep her in her crate when we can’t keep an eye on her. I was worried that she would chew something up, but so far she hasn’t show any interest in chewing anything but her toys. She’s very good in the crate. She whined a couple of times, but we ignored it, and it didn’t become a thing. She barks when she hears a noise, whether she’s in the crate or not. Usually just a few warning barks to alert us, but one time a neighbor’s dog was nearby barking continuously, and she did join in for a bit. She appears to be fully housebroken as well.
She is a really wonderful, loving dog. When she sees you, she just vibrates with joy and excitement. Sometimes I sit on the floor and she will come and flop belly up between my legs, then she pushes herself backwards into me until she is wedged up onto my lap with her head lolling over my arm and our legs in a tangled mess of affection. Come and see her and you will find your next love!
"July is such a sweet girl! She gets excited when you let her out of the crate, but is such a big baby. She loved the car ride and sat right on my lap with her head out of the window. We walked her around UCF and played fetch with her at the Oviedo Town Center, and she walked great! She is a little more timid around men, and was more affectionate towards me than my boyfriend throughout the day. She also likes to nip when she is playing, but otherwise she is very gentle. She would do great in a home with another dog she can play with and someone who can provide lots of activity!
"July loved playing with toys and going on walks and runs. She was very excited and pulled a little on the leash. She was very excited and curious about the pool and would jump in and swim. Great with people and other dogs. She was calm in the car and was very treat and food motivated. She was a very sweet dog and has lots of love to give!! In her future home, she would love to have a pool that she can swim in."
