Description: Jimmy is a strikingly beautiful guy! He is in a deep depression though as he misses his family so very much. He really needs a foster or a family that will shower him with all the love and attention he deserves. Please keep him in mind when looking to add to your family or if you decide that you would like to foster.
1/22 Volunteer Update: I just received an e-mail that touched my heart. It was from the mother of Jimmy's former owner. To share it in part, "My heart is broken to now see our son's cat Jimmy and read about his sadness and missing his family. Unfortunately our son had to be hospitalized and a friend of his took him to your rescue place. Our hope and desire is to see Jimmy adopted in to a good and loving home. We do not live in FL and have age and physical handicaps with us or we would see to having him up here." I assured Mary that we will find Jimmy a wonderful home soon. He is such a beautiful cat, a special breed and a great size. I also sent them a link to the video of our cat room. Now, don't make a liar out of me ~ let's find this wonderful cat a new home quickly!
1/24 Volunteer Update: I asked Mary if she could share any insights about Jimmy. Boy, could she! "Although not declawed he does very well with one of those inexpensive claw pads that lay on the floor. It used to be placed by a basket of toys and he used it and NEVER clawed on furniture, etc. He loved playing with his toys. Loved being talked to and he would respond. He would snuggle down on the bed or couch with our son. Loved getting on the window sill both front and back of apt. and watching the world go by. He loved watching the squirrels and when we were there a year ago he used to imitate the squirrels and bound around the floor from room to room like a squirrel would do - imitating the movements of the squirrels. As cats are - he seemed to prefer a certain cat food, but he looks like he is eating well. My son David did have to watch him re: opening the door as he wanted to have a taste of the outside world and we were all afraid of him getting hurt outside with traffic, etc. He has not had any experience with dogs. It upsets me to see him not have a home and I pray that a loving family will adopt him."
According to the Cat Fancier's Association, the Maine Coon is the native American longhaired cat and was recognized as a specific breed in Maine where they were held in high regard for their mousing talents. Through nature's own breeding program, this breed has developed into a sturdy cat ideally suited to the harsh winters and varied seasons of the region. The Maine Coon is well known for its loving nature, kindly disposition and great intelligence. Maines are especially good with children and dogs and have always been a popular and sought after companion. For more information on cat breeds visit www.cfainc.org
