Description:
Arthur is a cute little puppy. If you know anything about Retrievers, you now know a lot about Arthur! He is happy, energetic, and loving. Yup, that's our boy!!!

These little angels are terrific and love playing with each other all day. A word of advice ~ if you are considering adopting a puppy and don't already have a dog, please consider two. They don't have to both be puppies; you just really want to have another dog for a puppy to play with. If you saw how they romp all day, no way would you take one home and leave it there alone all day long while you were at work. The best dogs are those that have canine companionship and some training. OK, I'm off my soap box, but please consider it.

11/17 Foster Update: I know that there really isn't a dog that I don't love, but absolutely adore Arthur. He is so sweet, and he loves to be with you and snuggle. He's feeling much better, and is often romping around and getting into mischief like most puppies do. I've had him for two days now, and he hasn't had one single accident, which leads me to believe that he knows that he is supposed to go outside. He does whine when I leave him in his crate and leave the house, so I would absolutely only recommend him for a house setting since we all know that walls are paperthin in apartments/townhomes. Plus, puppies should have fenced-in yards to get all of their puppy energy out anyway. He loves to go out in the grass and roll around or just sit on your lap. His fur (especially the fur on his ears) is so soft and I love to pull him up in bed or the couch with me when I watch TV and just love on him. He often falls asleep in my arms. I will continue to work on making his crate a "safe" spot so that he doesn't cry when he is left in it. He does sleep in his crate during the night without any problems, but he is an early riser and is not afraid to let you know when he needs to go out.

Did you know that black dogs and cats are the least likely to be adopted? I don't know why that is. Maybe they just don't stand out. ZooToo recently interviewed Judy as part of a Black Dog Syndrome story that you can view at the bottom of this page.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Flat-Coated Retriever was developed in the 1800's by crossing several already established breeds, including the Irish Setter, Labrador, Water Dog, and the St. John's Newfoundland, though one source also mentions the Collie. The breed was fairly popular until the beginning of the World War, but was then overshadowed by the Labrador and Golden Retriever. The Flat-Coated Retriever deserves more attention, as he is not only an excellent bird dog and swimmer but also an outstanding family dog. These dogs are gifted with a fine intuition and an excellent sense of smell. The Flat-Coated Retriever is used above all for retrieving on plains and in areas thick with trees and bushes. They are good swimmers and also work well in marshy areas. Some of the Flat-Coated Retriever's talents are retrieving, hunting, tracking, watchdogging and agility. They have an average life expectancy of 10 years.
