Duke Ellington was owner surrendered, she is moving was unable to take Duke with her. Duke likes other dogs and cats.  he is happy and playful. He loves to take baths, walks well on a leash and loves his walks.  This puppy is adorable and would make a great addition to your home.

Foster Update 9/10/14:
- white body with longer hair, dark brown/black head a little more wirey,  does not seem to have shedding hair, ~19#, NOT a strong pull on leash

- average energy level for a puppy, has a calm/sweet demeanor, NOT hyper, sleeps very well - sleeps all night without fail and takes normal doggie naps daytime

- he adapted instantly to our home and we have two other dogs in the home, does not seem afraid of new environments, but like a statue in the car - very calm (maybe just unsure of where the ride will take him!?) but no problems for car ride itself and is an exceptional passenger

- he really has no bad behaviors (other than not being house-broken and is not crazy about the crate), NO destructive behavior in the home, plays/chews only with dog toys, T-storms pose no problems (no apparent fear)

- he is really a very friendly dog, happy to see anyone, barks upon people entering the house until he knows everything is ok, adjusts well to everyone and will lie in anyones' lap quickly, loves chew toys like hooves, etc.

- he had no problem adapting to our two dogs, loves to play gently, not aggressive whatsoever, even played tug-o-war with one of our dogs, he is very social

- no known commands, if he thinks he is in trouble he may be a little hard to catch, but not too bad

- he is NOT completely house-trained and he really does not like being left in a crate - barks for quite a while when put in crate and then left (maybe a little separation anxiety) if you are in the room with him while he's in the crate he calms down faster.  Needs someone who is willing to crate/house train with patience.  He is still a puppy and just needs more time to work on this.  He would probably be motivated by food to learn commands, but we just haven't had him but a few days and have not worked on this.  He walks fairly well on a leash, but could use more practice.  But, he is also not a dog who will just take-off when not on a leash.  He keeps an eye on the owner and makes sure you are in sight.  I have not tried this with multiple dogs together without leash, but on his own, he stays fairly close by.

- Duke is a really sweet, sweet little guy who is exceptionally friendly and loves to cuddle and be near his people.  He has a GREAT personality and is really like the perfect pup, once he gets fully house-trained where you don't have to watch him so closely.  He loves to be interactive with the family and is eager to please.   He loves to sleep snuggled up to someone in the bed - would be great for a child's (or adult) bedmate!!  He will sleep in as long as you do!!  I cannot say enough good things about little Duke.

- I think Duke would be suited to almost any household.  I have not seen him around kids, but think he would flourish with children.  He is very gentle, care-free and happy-go-lucky.  He pretty much adjusts to any situation easily.  He does not beg at the table.  He just sits at your feet under the table.  I really think Duke has an exceptional personality and is very fun to have around.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Jack Russell Terrier was developed in 19th century England by a clergyman named Jack Russell. This feisty little terrier was used to hunt small game, particularly fox, by digging the quarry out of its den. Breeders have emphasized its working ability, so the standard is very broad, encompassing a wide range of accepted body types. On English hunts, the Jack Russell Terriers were supposed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. The energetic and playful Jack Russell makes a good family companion. The Jack Russell Terrier is a perky, merry, devoted, and loving dog. Spirited and obedient, yet absolutely fearless. Careful and amusing, he enjoys games and playing with toys. Friendly and generally kind to children who have been taught not to tease or strike the dog. They are intelligent, yet willful and determined. They have strong hunting instincts (stronger than your average terrier) and should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and explore. Be careful not to let them off the lead unless they are very well-trained. Jack Russells like to bark and dig. They tend to get restless and destructive if not kept fruitfully occupied and well exercised. Jack Russells climb, which means they can climb over a fence, they also jump. A Jack that stands 12 inches high can easily jump five feet. JRTs are not the breed for a inexperienced dog owner. This is a BIG dog in a little dogs body. The owner needs to be as strong-willed as they are, or this little guy will take over.
