About Bronson | |

Bronson came to us from a lady that found herself in a terrible situation and had no choice but to surrender him. As she is dealing with stage 4 ovarian cancer, she is unable to care for him with her treatment schedule.
Bronson was used to a single-owner home and needs be socialized with multiple people around him as he has never had many visitors come to his home. He can be protective of his people, and, while he gets along with some dogs at the center, he would prefer to be the only dog in the home as he never had to share attention, food, or toys before.
Foster update 2/7/17: On the website
it
lists, "Leave It" as one of the commands that Bronson knows, but we didn’t realize all the contexts you could use it with him. We didn’t realize how meaningful/useful this command was until we started taking Bronson to training classes with Gary Adams.
When Bronson hears the command, "Leave IT," he stops barking. ☺
Next Saturday is another group session and we’re doing a one-on-one with the trainer either this week or next week. We are excited at the progress he is making~ He is such a smart dog!
Foster update 1/17/17: Bronson has been with us over two weeks, so I can say this with confidence. Tom and I both come and go at various times… in and out of the condo… and Bronson always recognizes us and is happy to see each of one and/or both of us when we arrive whether alone or together. There are lots of different scenarios, sometimes I arrive and Tom is already there and sometimes either Tom or I come in with no one there and sometimes we come in together. Bronson just gives a couple of woofs when he hears someone at the door, but stops woofing immediately when he sees us and is always happy to see us! We will continue to integrate new people and surroundings into his routine so he becomes familiar with visitors, people walking by, as well as other animals. Right now, Bronson continues to show both of us love and affection and has not exhibited any jealous tendencies or aggression.
Foster update 1/13/17: Inside the home, Bronson is a very playful and loving dog! He is very smart and responsive~ He is alert and vocal when he hears someone at the door…expect some woofing. Bronson is perfectly potty trained- we have never had an accident.
While on walks, Bronson has reactivity to dogs and people. Based on his past behaviors in being apprehensive with new people and dogs, we have not allowed anyone to get too close to him while we are walking him. Right now, we keep him on a 4’ leash and walk him close to us.
12/30/2016: Dog for the day update: Bronson seemed to bond with all our family members: adults and kids, and was very loving with all of us. Unfortunately, after my son and husband went out, Bronson treated them as strangers and acted protectively: snarling and standing at attention. He did bark at the door when he heard people outside, but it was a, "Hey, someone is near my house," kinda bark and he settled down after that. When outside, Bronson seemed very unfamiliar with the sounds of neighborhood people out and about and was scared of all the new commotion. Perhaps, as he lived with a single lady before, he may not have had much interaction with lots of visitors, family members, or being outside much. New owners need be aware that Bronson will need socialization and training in a home setting. His new owners need be willing to work with him and bring out the great dog he is~Bronson is a lovable dog that is best suited for an experienced dog owners with a fenced in yard. He needs his new owner(s) to be home most of the day as to get him acclimated to the new sounds and people around him.
10/20/2016: Bronson came back to Pet Rescue by Judy, though no fault of his. His owners circumstances made it mandatory to move. Bronson is house-trained, likes dogs, will jump up to greet you, enjoys walks/ runs, riding in the car, and playing with older children. He bonds quickly with his people and can be jealous over sharing attention with other dogs, so being the only dog in the home would be best. Our young volunteer has been training him to sit and stay. Bronson will be a great dog for an active family!
