Meet Daisy!

Her owner could no longer keep her, so we agreed to find Daisy a home where she can enjoy her senior years.  The best way we can describe her is "dainty" and "lady-like." She loves wearing her little dresses, and will trot beside you on the leash like she's in a fashion show. She loves being with people. As long as you are in her sight, she is happy to curl up on her bed and take a snooze.  We think she would be a great apartment dog, or a companion for an older adult or even working couple.  She is very well housebroken and expressive.  The funny thing is, she still has a little bit of the puppy in her - she practically high fives you when she says hi after her naps.

FOSTER UPDATE 3-24-16:    Daisy is glad the weather is warming up!   She is not a fan of cold weather and even though we put a sweater on her, she prefers to snuggle up under covers (me too!).     She is not a morning girl and is usually the last dog to get up and want to go out.     She has some degree of hearing loss and does not always hear us calling her.   Sometimes clapping will get her to hear us if she does not hear our voices.     Make sure to read her other updates, posted below, as they will tell you much more about her personality!    She would love to have a furever home!

FOSTER UPDATE 12-8-15:

•  Appearance   Daisy is about 7 1/2 pounds of happiness!   Beautiful big alert ears and long legs!

•  Energy Level   She can be quite prancy which is adorable.  She practically bounces up and down at meal time!   She is pretty low key but can get excited and run around, especially near mealtime!
•  Food   Daisy is now on a special renal (kidney) diet which can be obtained from the vet.   She absolutely loves meal time!
•  Adaptability   She has adapted to other foster dogs coming in to the home but does let dogs know if they are bothering her.   She must be convincing because even our 60# dog listens to her if she wants to be left alone!
•  Behaviors    She likes to wrap a blanket or towel over herself when she is sleeping.  She uses her front legs to express herself - very cute!   She absolutely loves her comforter!   We have a comforter on the floor in our bedroom and she runs in and out of there during the day.   That is definitely "her" spot and she is so funny about it.
•  Human Social Skills   She has been fine with anybody who comes over. She happily greets them and nudges them to pet her.   She does not like to be "grabbed" when she is picked up.   We have found she reacts best to being picked up if you are either sitting down in a chair or get down on the floor with her and let her come to you before picking her up.
•  Animal Social Skills    We have had as many as 9 dogs and she has been fine.   She doesn't really play with the other dogs but knows how to interact with them.
•  Obedience     She knows stay, come and shake.  She is extremely smart and willing to learn.
•  Ideal Home   An adult home would probably be best.   I think she would be quite adaptable but needs somebody who will make sure she gets her meds and also monitor her for any potential medical needs.    She does need four heart related medications twice daily.  **She is now taking her pills in canned food.  Yeah!  The food needs to be fed to her by hand and not off a spoon or in her bowl or she will find the pills.   I do this while I am preparing dinner and then she gets her dry food in her bowl.   She has had a kidney supplement added and it seems to be helping.  This has to be administered on an empty stomach, twice a day, so 2 hours after or 1 hour prior to meals.    I call it her "treat", haha.   It is a capsule which I put in some canned food.
Housetrained?   She is housetrained and will let you know if she needs to go outside.  She does have a bit of incontinence when sleeping and we usually have to change her bedding in the morning.  It is believed to be due to the diuretic she is on for her heart.   We just use a comforter or a few towels and change them out in the morning.

FOSTER UPDATE 7-6-15:   Daisy has had a rough couple of months since she lost her owner.  She was quite sick with pneumonia but now she is feeling much better and is showing her personality - and appetite!    She does have a heart murmur and arrhythmia and is on 4 different meds twice daily.   She is a VERY smart girl and can find a pill in *anything*.    We need to crush up her meds and mix them with water in order to use a syringe down the back of her throat to administer them!    She does need to be monitored for any changes in coughing or breathing but she is a happy prancey girl and can really wag her little stub of a tail to show just how happy she is.    She is ready to find a home to spend the rest of her life being loved.

UPDATE 05/07/2015:   Daisy's owner passed away and this beautiful senior is in need of a new home. She is so sweet and gentle.  She would love for someone to open their heart and home to her.  She in return will thank you and love you for the rest of her life.

FOSTER UPDATE 5-7-14:

•  Appearance  Brown with tan spots, typical Min Pin markings

• Energy Level Moderate energy level, but more active than most senior dogs.

• Food Natural Balance grain free small breed bites dry food, ¼ cup twice a day.

• Adaptability She responds and adapts very quickly to new situations and routine changes. Settled into our routine within a few days

• Behaviors No bad habits, just eager to be held or petted so huffs and puffs to get attention.

• Human Social Skills Friendly and open to anyone and seems good with kids but may not with well with toddlers due to her age.

• Animal Social Skills Greets and plays with other dogs openly and happily

• Obedience No commands as we can see, but will give a light soft huff or bark to let you know she needs something (ie. food water or attention)

• Training Daisy is house trained and will give a light soft huff or bark to let you know she needs to go out. She stays home all day to roam the house and is let out after work to potty.

• Personality Quirks Super playful and super happy dog. Likes to walk the yard perimeter to get her exercise and likes to lay in the sun in the yard.

• Ideal Home The ideal home would be a house with no stairs, with a fenced in back yard so she could get her exercise to keep her young. She is super loving and will gladly give a family many years of happiness if they allow her to stay young with exercise. All Daisy wants id a nice yard to roam and a warm lap with a scratch from time to time. Don’t count out this beautiful little girl just because she’s a senior dog, she deserves a good home just like any other puppy.
