About Georgie O'Leary the Fiesta Bowl Mama

  • Microchipped: Yes
  • Housetrained: Yes
Update:   June 2015 - Poor Georgie was adopted from PRBJ and only spent a few days in her new home when she bolted out the door.  She was missing and was just recently found after living in the woods for 5 1/2 months.  Georgie is a special needs dog, in that she is very afraid of many things and will truly need a home who is dedicated to providing months if not much longer, of patient training to help her become a happy, confident dog.

Georgie and her puppies came from a kill shelter. She took wonderful care of her babies and they all have homes. She is a little scared right now, but with some patience and time, we are hoping to see Georgie's personality shine through!

Foster Update 9/17/14

• Appearance: Beautiful black Lab mix with white markings on her chest. She has a short stocky build.

 Energy Level: low to moderate.

• Food: Evanders, is fed 2X a day next to another dog, no food aggression has been seen.

• Adaptability: slow to warm up to new people and situations, is scared and shy at first.

• Behaviors:  she is very timid when you first bring her home, and faces each new situation slowly, but is learning to adapt. She just needs constant reassurance until she is confident 'new things' won't do her any harm.

• Human Social Skills: She is still very cautious of new people, although, she is getting better with new folks entering the home.  Like many dogs, she prefers to approach people instead of people approaching her.

She has only been with us for a week, but is already starting to break out of her shell. Now, when we come home and she hears the door she runs off the couch to greet you wagging her tail.

• Animal Social Skills: in foster with another dogs and shares food, toys, etc without any aggression. Georgie also is wonderful with other dogs. She has become best friends with our other foster, Astrid.

• Training: Georgie is housetrained for the most part, every once in a blue moon if she is not let out, she will have an accident, but this is our fault. She knows the command 'sit,' and we are working on other commands.

• Personality Quirks: Georgie LOVES bones. She will not chew on the furniture, but if you give her a bone she will be at it until it is gone

• Ideal Home : a quiet home with a family/owner who is home most of the day.  Georgie would be happy with another calm dog in the home for companionship. Also, a home with older/no children as Georgie is still so shy of new people. A fenced in back yard to play in or daily walks would be great!

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
