LAP CAT ALERT!!!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Velvet, which is how people describe my super-soft coat. My greatest wish is to have a forever home, so I wanted to let you know a little bit about me. First, don't let my posted age scare you away. I went to see a nice doctor recently who said I might actually be much younger than that - at least I'm as fit and healthy as a very young kitty!

I have very few needs. Give me a lap to snuggle in, a window to look out of, and a human to love me, and I will give you many years of love in return. Some people don't like black cats, but did you know we're considered very lucky in other cultures? And look closely at the patch of white on my neck. My foster mom says that's my little bit of goodness peeking out. She says I'm so sweet, it had to show somewhere on the outside!

Not only will I bring you good fortune, I can also improve your health. Did you know studies prove that lap cats like me help to lower blood pressure and improve memory retention in elderly people? That means I have more years to snuggle with you.

I'm also very well behaved. I like to think it's because I'm very smart. I know never to scratch or bite someone. Unlike some other kitties who lash out when they're overstimulated, I run over to my cardboard scratcher to let off a little steam, then go right back for more loving. I like children who know how to properly pet kitties, too. I even know not to scratch on the furniture. That's what kitty scratchers are for!

The shelter used to think I didn't get along with other cats. It took me a few weeks to be sure my foster brother wasn't going to attack me, but after spending time with him, I proved we can get along just fine. We don't cuddle or anything, but I can jump up on my foster dad's lap when he's already there and get petted right along with him. By the way, my absolute favorite thing in the world is to have my cheeks rubbed. I'll bury my head in your hands and let you love on me for hours like that!

I love vertical space - that's kitty speak for cat climbers, tall chairs, and window perches. After living for so many years in a shelter, I feel much safer when I'm off the ground. Don't pick me up and try to carry me - I still have some fears from my past and don't like that - but sit down in a chair for a moment, and I'll come right to you. I also love meal times. Canned food is the best! My foster brother doesn't always finish his, but I learned if I wait patiently for him to walk away, I get to eat his. See, I told you I'm smart!

There's so much more for you to learn about me and so much I would like to learn about you. Won't you please adopt me, so we can get to know each other better?

Velvet is a senior cat here at Pet Rescue by Judy and has been here since June of 2012. She is about 11 years old. Please don't let her age or color discourage you from meeting her. She loves to cuddle, is litter box trained, and up to date on shots. She has been here for a while and we guarantee she will love you forever! Velvet still enjoys her seat in front of the window, and she loves her evening lap time.
