Gigi’s coloring is a pale calico, and her small round face is mesmerizing. I can watch her at play all day, and she is one rambunctious little girl. She can hold her own with any of her brothers and will nudge her way into the food dish to make sure that she gets all of her beauty nutrition.
"Calico" refers to a cat's coloring. It is not a separate breed. One study has attempted to trace the origins of the coat pattern, and the research led them to port cities on the Mediterranean and in Northern Africa, the theory being that the cats were on board the ships that sailed those trading routes. (Cats were frequently "employed" on ships to keep rats away from the cargo.) Only 1 in 3,000 calicos are male, and they are always sterile. Calicos are believed to bring good luck. In some parts of the US, they are called money cats. The Japanese maneki neko--"waving cat"--figurine is almost always a calico.
Our dogs and cats love to sleep on Kuranda beds. We love them, too - sturdy and long lasting, they provide comfort to our pets for years! But we do not have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed or tower at discounted price, please click here!
