Lucy and her sibling Roxie are looking for home after their lifetime owner developed brain cancer and could no longer care for them.  Imagine how hard that must be, dealing with such a terrible disease AND having to part with your pets?  It truly is heart wrenching. These two pups are so sweet and full of life. They would definitely love to be adopted together ~ gosh, they're so easy, together they don't equal the work of one puppy!  This is what their owner had to say about Lucy:  "Lucy is a 15 inch beagle who was born in August of '04. She's the typical lazy beagle who loves kids and loves to be played with or cuddled up to at night.  Being 8 yrs old they still love to stretch their legs and run.  Being together pretty much their entire lives I would love to see them adopted out together, but I know that's hard to do."

Foster Update:  Lucy is becoming a very loving, cuddly dog.  At first she didn't want to snuggle but now every time you sit down she wants to be in your lap.  She loves to be petted and fussed over.  Lucy does enjoy interaction with my dogs, she play wrestles with them and they chase each other around the yard.  She likes to hide in the lillies which is driving my husband crazy.  Lucy does not bark as much as before and she doesn't stay outside as much as she used to.  We feed Lucy 1 1/2 cups of dry dog food a day, it is a weight management food as we are trying to take a little weight off her.  I feel Lucy would do better in a house with other dogs as she does enjoy playing with them.  Lucy is a loving dog who would be someone a great family addition.

Foster Update:  Lucy is a little bit larger version of a traditional beagle.  She has become a positive influence in our household.  She has become comfortable enough to get in my husband's chair everytime she comes in from outside.  She loves to be outside, but will come inside after being out for awhile.  She listens very well and enjoys being with people and other dogs.  She plays with my other dogs, but also leaves my senior dog alone.  I feed Lucy 1 1/2 cups of Weight Management food and she usually eats it all up.  She gets treats daily from our neighbor and has lost some weight since she came to live with us.  Lucy listens very well and gets along well with people and dogs.  Cats probably wouldn't fare as well.  She likes to hunt lizards in the lillies.  Lucy would do well in a house with or without dogs.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Beagle is one of the most popular scent hounds because of his energy, willingness, and merry, sweet disposition. The breed probably originated as a cross between the Harrier and other hounds in England. The Beagle has been used in packs, alone, and in pairs, for hunting hare, pheasant and quail. He has also served as an excellent narcotics detection dog and makes a fine family companion. The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone. Consider buying two if you will be gone a lot. A Beagle has a loud baying cry that was a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors. Beagles have a tendency to follow their own noses. They may take off on their own exploration if let off their leash in an unfenced area. Energetic and possessing great stamina, the Beagle needs plenty of exercise, but a yard of reasonable size will take care of most of its requirements. A brisk daily walk will cover the rest. Always use a lead when walking this breed or you will be running the risk of it disappearing in search of wild game. They have a life expectancy of about 12-15 years.
