Foster Update 4/21/12: Mittens is now a year old and the last one of his 5 siblings and Mom to find his forever home. He is one of the sweetest cats. He loves coming to you when you've stepped out of the shower and rubs against your wet legs. He also loves to rub against our dogs. I guess he's letting them know that he owns them by rubbing his scent on them! He's a pretty quiet cat, but loves to play and doesn't mind being picked up. When I walk our dogs, he likes to walk with us. It's a pretty funny sight with 3 dogs and a cat walking with them! He doesn't run off and when the walk is over he goes into the house with the dogs. Won't you consider giving this handsome boy his forever home?
Mittens is a curious, fun little kitten who loves to play! He loves belly rubs, but only when he is not in his playful mood. Mittens has beautiful markings and he’s a Hemingway (6 toes). We named him Mittens because of his white paws, but now that he’s older, his six toes show more and it looks like he’s wearing white gloves! He will make a wonderful playmate and companion!
Mittens is one of six kittens born to a wonderful mother cat named Grace. They were born in the wee hours of the morning during a storm outside a place of business.
Mittens loves, loves, loves belly rubs! He loves them so much he'll stop playing for them!
The technical term for a cat with extra toes "polydactyl," which is Greek for "many fingers." Although polydactylism can occur in any geographical area, these cats tend to be more common on the East Coast of North America, the southwest of England, and in Wales. They were once known as Boston Thumb cats, because many polydactyl cats were found on ships sailing to and from the great seaport of Boston. Later, they came to be called Hemingway cats, after their famous admirer, author Ermest Hemingway. Today, his former home in Key West has been turned into a museum, and some of the descendents of that first cat roam the grounds freely.
