Nani was named after the Merson family who helped Judy capture the dog and her 5 tiny puppies.  They had been living under an abandoned house and it took all of them to get her out.

Nani was adopted from us but due to circumstances, she has been returned to us by her heartbroken family. Here is what they had to say about her:

Nani is now called Mama. She is a very sweet loving dog. She loves to play and be teased and will give you a run for it. She loves to be kissed on the head, and the wagging of her tail will let you know how much she enjoys it. Patting her behind is something she also enjoys a lot, along with brushing and TLC--that's her thing.

She loves going for walks. She will wait and wait for you until you are ready. When she sees the leash, she will show you how eager she is to go explore. She is really good on teh leash and will follow you, and knows how to stay on the left.

She is fine with other dogs. She actually gets very curious when a new one shows up. She'll sniff and keep her ears and tail up. Once she is welcomed, she will start playing like crazy--but she'll back off if the other dog is not interested. She can be small but is never afraid to "speak her mind" if she feels threatened by another dog.

She is fine with cats, and actually her favorite "toy" is the big cat that lives with her. She bugs the heck out of the cat until the cat lets her know that play time is OVER.

She loves people and is very friendly: children, grown-ups...everybody. She loves to be around you, even if she is doing nothing. Hanging out by the kitchen when you're in there is perfect for her. She will come and find you if she feels you're gone for too long. She will jump on the bed and cuddle up with you at night. She has her own spot at the end of the bed, and in the morning she might come up and cuddle, and then toss and turn around--it's hilarious!

She will bark to let you know if something is not okay. Trust her when she barks, because something is definitely up. Great family dog. Best friend ever. Unconditional love at its best.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
