We could not say no to this sweet senior, Max, whose owner surrendered him to a high kill shelter.

H e is now 18 years old and needs a home full of love for the rest of his life.  He is on a few different medications that help his heart as he has a murmur. He goes out with our other dogs and walks very well on a leash, but he does have a tendency to bark a lot so we don't recommend apartment or attached living housing (duplex).  He had his teeth cleaned recently and did have a few teeth removed, but he can eat fine and just loves to eat!  He is up to date on all shots.  Max knows there is someone out there that would love his company!  Please put an application in for Max and he will show you a special kind of love. He loves being with his people and will adore you.   He loves getting scratches on his head/ ears and on his rear as well:)  He gets very excited when company comes over and will be happy to be the center of attention once he calms down. Max is a sweet senior who still has lots of life experiences to share and love to offer~

FOSTER UPDATE:   Max has quite a personality!    He can bark a lot but he also "talks" or vocalizes.    It's almost as if he can't help himself, so no apartment living for him!    He is a very good boy, listens well and loves to be outside with his people.    He has a surprising amount of energy for his age but also takes lots of naps.   He loves a nice comfy dog bed!    Sometimes he will "nurse" on a fleece blanket, usually at night.    We have other dogs, ranging from 5 pounds to over 50 and he does fine but we do separate them all at mealtime and he eats in his crate.    He is like a vacuum when he eats, even his pills!      I could see him easily becoming overweight, which would put a strain on his heart, so not too many treats!     He does have an interest in toads, snakes, etc. so supervision is a must!   He is also fascinated by squirrels and birds and likes to think he could catch one.  He has a lot of energy but isn't THAT fast!   Max would love to have a comfy home to spend the rest of his life in, with a person who will give him lots of scratches and take him outside to explore.  A fenced yard would be perfect.    He is not a big fan of car rides so being in a crate would probably be the best solution.

DOG FOR A DAY Outing Report:

"I had Max for the Dog 4 a Day Program on Saturday, July 29 and he is a sweet dog. He only barked occasionally at my house for instance when my daughter was leaving. He wouldn't play with any toys and he didn't want to lay on the couch with us but he did enjoy the 3 short walks we took. He walked well on the leash, staying right beside me and didn't pull at all. In my house my cat was hiding under the couch and Max could tell he was there. He was very fixated on the couch knowing the cat was there. He didn't try to attack the cat even when the cat hissed him. In fact, he didn't even bark at the cat. I think it was just curiosity. You would never know that Max is 17 years old, he seems and acts much younger."
