Cookie is a senior puppy who was rescued from a high kill shelter.    Per the vet tech, Cookie has a 6 out of a 6 heart murmur, but there is NO evidence  that she is in congestive heart failure.  She does have dental disease, but anesthesia at her age would be risky.  T/D small bites food is a wonderful suggestion for Cookie (and any dog needing a little help with dental disease). This food can be bought at your local vet office.  T/D can be used as food or 2-3 bites day as treats and dogs love it~ and it helps keep their teeth and breath fresh and clean!

The vet thinks her prognosis at this point is fair, but at anytime (due to her age and murmur) she could develop heart failure, and she will need to be watched closely.  Cookie would love a home that is very slow paced, without children.  I promise you will fall in love with Cookie and she is waiting for her furever family to come take her home.  Won't you be that special person who offers her the love and care she deserves?

JUNE 2017 foster update:    Cookie is waiting to find her furever home!    She might do best in a one person household since she really tends to bond to one person.    She also seems to prefer men.   She gets warm very easily in this weather so if she is outside, it needs to be when it is cooler or for short periods of time.   She has been in the pool and does lots of splashing!    She never has an accident in the house and when she does need to go out, she is in and out quite quickly.    We have had many other fosters in and out while we've had her and she's done fine.    All she needs now is a chance at a home!    Is that you?

February 2017 foster update:   Cookie looks almost like a mini Collie.   Her hair has all grown back and her coat is full and beautiful!     She is a good eater and is fairly easy to care for.  She does sleep a lot and her favorite place is in her doggy bed on the floor next to my husband's side of the bed.   She knows when he puts on his work clothes and pretty much keeps to herself in her bed while he is at work, other than to eat.   He is definitely her favorite person!  When he is home, she is his shadow and cries at the door if he goes outside without her UNLESS he has left with his work clothes on.   Shows how smart she is!  She loves to lay on a shelf, as shown in the picture.   It is only about 6 inches off the floor but she can survey the room from there as well as the front door, for any comings and goings.      She is not really interactive with the other dogs in the household (from 4 pounds up to 60 pounds) but will put them in their place if they do something that she determines to be wrong, especially our biggest guy.  The 2 small puppies already know not to bother her or she will correct them.    She has a little stuffed toy (her baby) that she keeps in her bed with her.   The puppies steal it on occasion but not if she is anywhere near it!     We have put a calming collar on her and sometimes I think it does make a difference (regarding her barking).   She does great in the car and enjoys going on rides but can get vocal if she sees other dogs.

Foster Update:  Cookie is doing well and her fur is starting to grow back.  It basically looked like a lion cut as her rear half was mostly hairless.  We have given her some medicated baths and her itching seems to be mostly resolved though she does get a bit flaky on those areas.  She eats dry food just fine and though she does have some periods of coughing, we have not noticed any breathing issues.  She can be quite yappy so I would not recommend her for an apartment or townhouse.
